Simple carbohydrates are sugars like glucose. They are monosaccharides. They have energy in the molecule for a cell to get out during cellular respiration.

Simple carbohydrates can bond together in chains to make starches, cellulose, and other polysaccharides.

Monosaccharides are the simplest form of carbohydrates. They consist of one sugar and are usually colorless, water-soluble, crystalline solids. Some monosaccharides have a sweet taste. Examples of monosaccharides include glucose (dextrose), fructose, galactose, and ribose. Simple carbohydrates give us energy because they are quickly absorbed by the digestive system.
