No, life was sacred in bible times.
If 2 men were fighting and a pregnant woman was injured and lost her baby because of it, the man that caused the abortion was put to death.
To bad we do not have those same values of life today.
Image a world without wrong-full death and babies conceived, were loved by both parents, grandparents, cousins, etc.

Not only would that have been considered a sin, they didn't have the medical knowledge to do it. I'm sure some tried, and died in the process. Throwing oneself down the stairs was a good one, of course many times it just caused birth defects or killed the mother. They also used poisons (especially the Romans), but these sometimes backfired too.

Chemical induced abortions were common. There is well known story of a plant that became extinct during Roman times because people were pulling them up to avoid having unwanted little Neros running around.

Yes, and although the condemnation of abortion is absent in the NT, it is present in the writings of early Christian leaders (for more info read the non-canonical 'Diadache' or 'Writings of the Apostolic Fathers')

Darling - women have been having abortions since time immemorial. I'm sure even cavewomen had their tricks to end unwanted pregnancies - especially if the baby would be born in the winter months or would hamper the hunting.

Even worse - they often practised infanticide in those times

Mandrake root, hon. Women have a long history of sharing recipes for birth control/miscarriage with other women. The did it secretly because men, well, are men. They didn't have to know.

I'm sure they did, but it was probably a lot harder on the mother and more dangerous. Thank God we now have professionals to do that in a safe environment.
