Do you think that the Sit-N-Go single table tournaments is a matter of luck or do believe the great players can consistantly win in these tournaments?

When every I play these tournaments it seems like it is a lot of luck involved-it basically a "crap-shoot".

What do you think?

Sit N Go's are so mathmatically based when you get towards bubble of the tournament that the players who have the best understanding of the concepts that need to be applied will, in the long run, have the edge in sit n gos. Luck is always involved in poker. You have to look at poker as a long term investment. short term results will vary according to variance, but in the long run, if you use winning strategy's, you will be a winner. And just to clarify, there is no way shape or form that anyone can finish in the money 90% of the time. Maybe you finished ITM 9 out of 10 times...that I can believe, but if you're going to be throwing ridiculous statements like that around you better have some proof to back that up. The best Sit n go players in the world, ie the people who play them for their sole source of income only get ITM at the most 40-50 % of the time, anything more than that is just positive variance, and nothing more.

I started playing SnG's on PartyPoker, thinking I could run over a single table without problem. After all, I was a home game champion! I was wrong. The first 2 SnG's I played in I was the first man out. But I kept playing them, learned a lot, and by the time PP shut down for US players I finished in the money 90% of the time. Like anything else in the poker world there's a learning curve, and nothing helps you learn like experience. Is luck involved? Of course. But poker is a skill game, and great players will usually win.

There's always some luck involved in every form of poker. SnGs have a definite edge for a skilled player, this edge differs from site to site due to the format of the Sit and Go. Party Poker used to offer 800 chip starting stacks with fast blinds, this meant skill was less of a factor (though a good player would still win more often than a weak player) while other sites have bigger stacks and slower blind increases so skilled players have an even bigger edge. http://www.theultimatepokerguide.com has reviews of different sites and you can get an idea of how their Sit and Gos work on each site.

Sit&gos are great, the approach is different compare to a multi-table tournaments, I like them. I play around 30/50 hours of online poker a week, and sit-n-gos are often part of thoses hours.

Take care

There is a tremendous amount of skill involved in a sit and go. It takes experience to know the right play at the right time and actually perform. Great players will win more than their fair share.
