The absolute best remedy is to use soap only when absolutely necessary. It's horrible for very dry skin. I use Johnson's Baby Wash instead, which has helped enormously. You also need a good moisturizer that you should apply before your face is completely dry. Some of the least expensive products will be the best. Try to use a cream instead of a lotion.

Ok...now I know this sounds yucky, but it really works, expecially if you have dry and oily patches of skin...Mayonaise! Wash you face as usual with a mild facial soap. Apply a light mask of a quality mayonaise and go watch a 30 minute to one hour TV show, or call your friend on the phone! After the one or one half hour time period has passed remove the mayonaise with a soft cloth and shower as usual, but do not use bath soap on your face. Use only a mild facial soap or warm water. The oils in the mayonaise will soften you skin while the egg will make your pores appear smaller.

I usually mix lotion with a little Vaseline. Although some think that Vaseline can clog your pores, it works great for me, and I have very smooth skin.
