I have a 93 Passat which sat for a year and a half. The transmission has always delayed shift or slipped between 35 to 40 mph. I am trying to figure out what could be wrong with it or do the transmission just need to be flushed.

Is there some reason you're not reading the list of service recommendations @ 15,000 miles in your glove compartment? Absent will be EVER having the transmission fluid flushed which doesn't change the transmission filter. New car manufacturers NEVER recommend flushing. Call your Nissan Dealer to see when the transmission fluid and filter should be CHANGED.

I personally doubt that flushing it is gonna do anything. Get it checked. The bands may need tightening - transmission shop work. with special tools.

Besides there are many cars that sit longer than that in car lots.

Always start with the least expensive and simple reason when diagnosing a mechanical problem.Go with a flush and that hopefully will solve the problem.Good luck.

The best and least expensive thing to try is TRANS -X additive. I've seen it work wonders on slipping AND leaking transmissions.Have used it a few times on my own cars. Good luck.

That would be where I would start..a good flushing hopefully will clear out what sounds like varnish buildup. Good luck and I hope you arent facing a rebuild.

Well it sounds to me like the bands in your tranny are no good.At this point I would get it to the tranny shop and wait for a bill, there is not much more you can do unless you want to add towing to your bill when it goes out while you are driving.
