Question Details: My son died 12 years ago. His death was ruled a suicide and I've always felt the local police did not do a thorough investigation. My reasons would make this a long story, but basically I'm looking for help in finding a trustworthy forensics person or investigator that would just look at some photos perhaps.

Mary,
I am deeply sorry for your loss. As a mother my heart goes out to you.
The first thing I would suggest is to go to the police department and speak with someone in charge. I would explain that you felt the death of your son was not a suicide. I would ask them if they would release the case file to you or someone you would appoint.
I would then talk to the local medical examiner and ask him/her to reexamine the case.
I would then talk to the local DA's office and tell them the same.
If you get no satisfaction locally, go through the state route.
That would be the cheapest route.
There are many individuals that are forensics for hire that will investigate; however, usually it is not free. I would contact Dr. Michael Baden (through HBO) or Dr. G (Discovery TLC) and maybe they might look into it for free.
On another note, ask yourself - is there evidence that the locals made a mistake or could it be that your a mom that is suffering? Join a group of parents of deceased children either locally or through the Internet and please see someone to help you with your grief.
Good luck to you - my heart is with you.

First off sorry to hear. And second there is i think a 2 year statute of limitations on murder and some other things, not sure if state by state is different. You could hire your own private detective to go over old police records and all and see what his opinion would be. But above all, you would have to go back and show proof to the the police department before they would turn over their cause and rule it something else, unless this is only for yourself. If your just looking for the anwser i mean. And watch who hire, read all the fine print, watch what you sign and make sure these people are reputitable

Although you might find someone who would take your money and look at things for you, after 12 years I doubt they will change the ruling since so much time has gone by.

If you search under the "local" tab in yahoo for the key word- investigators you can probably be able to find someone there who can help you.

I would consult a good attorney in the town where he died and ask him to reccommend a good private investigator. A good one can find descrepancies in the autopsy report. My condolences. I know how you feel, believe me.

If you have some evidence to back your suspicions, I'd talk to a journalist.
