what should i put in my carry on bag to do on the plane. i have a three hour layover so i need something to do during this time.

Ok. Your carry on should include: a change of clothes in case your luggage gets lost. ipod/mp3 if you dont have one, mp3 are like 50 bucks, magazine, book or crossowrd puzzles(suduko). If there is anything you like to do, make sure you bring it.
Your laptop should be ok, just make sure that you shut it down before take-off or landing. They will remind you and tell you when it is ok to use it.
Make sure to dring lots of water the night before so you do not get dehidrated during flight. If you don't want to get sick, or feel like you are going to throw-up during the flight, take Air-Borne, just put it in some water and drink it!

Definitely bring your laptop in your carryon bag. You can watch a DVD on it (assuming you have a DVD drive and you have enough battery power). Or you can do other stuff on the laptop to occupy time like play games. Or bring books/magazines/newspapers on the plane - you can always do crossword puzzle too. Or just sleep. For the 3-hour stopover... I'm assuming it's at a bigger airport but any airport will have a food court or restaurants to eat or get coffee, and will have stores (at least newsstands to get more stuff to read). Or you can always walk around and watch other people and stuff.

When you go through security, you have to send the lap top through by itself. Also, it counts as one of your carry ons or personal items. You can use it while you're flying, so make sure it's charged up. Do not put it in your check in luggage no matter what!

i have been on planes ever since i was 4 years old!!! i usually take a good book, laptop, portable dvd player, cd player, mini pillow, and sometimes a friend lol!!! i hope i helped. if not, sorry!!

if you are taking your laptop in your carry-on bag, i would suggest maybe a DVD or Music that you can wtach on the computer. don't forget earphones.
