A good nasal douche. Sounds disgusting, doesn't feel too hot either, but it works MARVELOUSLY....... They sell little "kits" in health food stores and stuff but I am too cheap for that so I make my own.....

Get one of those medicine syringes, like for children's Tylenol or whatever (any pharmacy will have them, just ask nice and you won't even have to pay for it). Just be sure to get the bigger one - 2tbls I believe it is.

Then use this recipe to make up a little nose juice:
1 tsp of salt (pickling salt if you have it) & 1 tsp of baking soda to one quart of water...shake well! Warm water is a little easier on the schnoz, but not necessary.

Then fill up the ol' syringe, stick it up your nose (as far as you can stand it), and push the plunger down slowly but steadily. Repeat on the other side.

Warning - this does NOT tickle! It's gonna burn for a second - it is salt after all. And do it over a sink and try to remember to breathe so you don't gag.

There! Like I said, it's not glamorous, but it really does work wonders. You can do this quite a few times a day since there isn't any "medicine" in it like those over the counter nose sprays and stuff. I usually do it about two times a day when I'm REALLY stuffed up. Or I'll do it a couple of times (like 15 minutes apart) until I can breathe again.

I love the new Shower Soothers that they sell in the drugstore. It's a tablet that you drop on the floor of your shower. It releases a vapor that just opens things up wonderfully. The scent reminds me of Vicks Vaporub, but it works very well with the steam of the shower. Of course, your skin might turn all prune-like from staying in the shower that long, but who cares when you're congested?

What has always help me and my family is to put a little dab of Vick's under your nose/above your lip. You know the kind of Vick's that you put on your chest when you're sick. It really opens up the nose. Hope it works for you, too. I think they call it "infra rub". You just need a little bit, small size.

Just keep a bottle of eucalyptus essential oil around. Add it to water, boil and inhale for severe blockage. For minor congestion inhale directly from the bottle.

Hold your head over a pan of boiling water. If you put a towel on your head this will work faster. (Add some Vick's Vapor Rub if you have any)
