Some issues are fun to discuss with like minded people. I'm agnostic so sometimes I like answering questions from atheists and agnostics because I understand their viewpoint and I have some of the same thoughts. On the other hand, it's also interesting to answer questions posted by theists, of all religions. I'm usually polite when I answer, so I'm able to express a different viewpoint, or offer some mode of reconcilliation for the different beliefs, while not embarassing my fellow agnostics. Either way, I enjoy the discussions on here, but I get irritated when people ask serious questions and some idiots are just posting rude and pointless answers. In that case, I don't care what they believe, I don't want to talk to them.

I like both. As long as people are accepting of what others think, a great time can be had by all. I do it to learn about the people around me, and their beliefs.
I am studying now---------two different religions. I take classes from a Lubavitch Rabbi on how Kabbalah can influence one's character. And, I have a teacher and am studying Islam.
As I am Jewish, the Rabbi and I get along well. Our whole class (well, mostly) works very well together.
I have private classes on Islam. It has been fascinating to see how much our religions (except the Jesus part) are alike.
I am learning, growing, and feel very good about what I am doing. It makes me feel very good about my self.

It doesn't matter much what the person believes in, as long as there is respect and open-mindedness in the tone of the person's voice.
I find it very hard to talk to someone who's always attacking me about every word I say, whether that person has the same belief or not.
Peace.

If I'm asked a question then I will reply, and I also enjoy talking with other Buddhists too... a good hearty debate on the Dharma is always a wonderful thing to keep you sharp.

I like to talk religion with Protestants. It's amazing how little they know about the Catholic faith, even though they condemn it so....and when we can really sit and talk, they can see that there is a history to the Christian faith far beyond the 66 books of Scripture Alone and long before the 1500's.

Both... and all of the above. Mostly I try to be helpful, but I enjoy giving and receiving some good witty remarks, as well (sometimes cutting remarks). I grade them on a scale of one to ten... based on intellect, not shared beliefs.

It seems pointless to do either since you're either "preaching to the choir" or trying to convince someone of something that you realize they will never believe. I guess the only questions of those kind that I like to answer are where the person assumes something about my beliefs, and I can correct them on that.
So it would someone who thinks differently, and to teach.

i have opinions on both sides of the coin. Some people who do not believe the same as i have had long hours of discussion. while others cant even be civilized.
i believed in mormonism as the truest church on earth, and i always talked with people outside of the church because i am a witness of the glory of Jesus christ. in at least one vision, visitation He came to me as i was out of body in the morning sun, while in another vision I was taken into the sky and beheld the same jesus and was ushered into his presense so i think i was either dead or having a very powerful OBE OR NDE.
but if i would talk to people of the LDS persuasion, i would get into many conflicts of faith and interpretation. i no longer go to that church because of secret combinations and people who are called to be leaders do not even know their own scriptures.
of course i never knew anyone that joined the church because of false doctrines in the christian, protestent and catholic church because of anything i ever said.
even as one who was a witness of christ as a born again christian i would get into Heated discussions with other protestants. but a few would show some agreableness.
its definitely a mixxed bag, which relies on maturity and knowledge of the scriptures.

I enjoy talking to all kinds of people! However, when it comes to religion I do not like to talk to Christians though. They are 'right' and that is the end of any true conversation. I don't want to fight, or debate in a hostile way and I find them to be fairly hostile.

I'm going to echo what JewishGirl wrote. I'm Catholic, and it is not only tedious to keep explaining over and over that we don't worship statues, or Mary, or the pope, blah, blah, blah, it is also very shallow conversation, because it rarely gets beyond that.
