I'm 16 and i'm entering a bass fishing tournament, the entry fee is $100 and my dad wants his 100 dollars back that he will pay. The top 40 get 100 dollars or more and 1st place is 3000 dollars before taxes. Theres also another tournament that the entry fee is 800 dollars and last place is 760 dollars before taxes. So do you think he should get the entry fee he payed back or should I get the money that I win and earn??

If you win you should give him his money back, you don't play if he doesn't pay!

Yes you should pay it back. If he didn't pay your entry fee you wouldn't even have a shot at winning anything. He is taking a chance as well, what if you win nothing. You should give him all you earn up to the $100. If I paid your way in I would expect my $100 and half of whatever you earned over the $100

Your dad is fronting your play, he is making the agreement ahead of time that you will pay for your own play should you win. Fair play, You bet. Just because your are 16 does not mean you are not gonna pay for some of your own things. Dad is right, pay the man the hundred and win the $3,000. That will make you both happy.

If your dad hands you $100 dollars and tells you he wants it back, it's called a loan and you must pay it back. Whether you even get into the top 40 or not, you must pay him back. It's called a handshake agreement, and ethically and legally you need to pay the man back.

It's what a grown man would do, pay his debts.

I would say that if you win, you should treat him out to dinner or get him something to say thank you. It doesn't have to cost $100. The thought and the fact that it came from your heart will make him feel that it was worth it to give you the money

without his entry fee money, you wouldn't win or earn squat. Trust me, it's complicated at 16, but when you get older you'll REALLY wish you had paid him back. He's your freakin dad; family IS honor.

If is the biggest word in the English language. If you win, well hell...not likely. I wouldn't give the money to my kid unless I had assurances he would pay it back.

Of course he should get it back. He is "fronting" you the money. Some non-relatives would ask to split the winnings too.
