I wonder how many Atheist are already out there, but are too cowardly to come to the front as they might not have won their public office.
Yes, I also believe a "warped christian follower," but that is not the same as a Christian Follower, who would not do so under penalty of their immortal soul.

It would be exceedingly difficult to even get there seeing as how Atheists are the most hated and discriminated minority in the country (held in a more negative view than known terrorists) and many states have it written in their constitutions that an atheist can not hold public office.
But even if one did manage to get elected to some public office it's certain he/she would be subject to many death threats, vandalism, hatred, and would probably be killed before too long.

Most likely, there are extremist nutjobs in all religions. To run for a politic office while being openly Atheist would ruin your chances for election.

No. The reason is simple. You absolutely - no way - get out of Dodge - impossible - cannot ever become President of the U.S.A. unless you believe in Jesus. Tragic, but true. So, in your hypothetical question, when or if America is ready to choose an atheist president, it will most certainly be much much different times. Also sad, but true. Personally, I'd like to see one in my lifetime. But if that happened, he/she might take a christian bullet.

It's possible, but it's also possible for the guy to get mauled to death by a bear while he takes a shower.
Just because it's possible, doesn't mean it's probable.

Probably. But they would first try every dirty trick known to man in an attempt to smear their image.
