I just wonder if a modern civilized person would have taken part of a barbaric slaughter like God used to request in the old days.

Yes you would have been Jews. I didn't realize I would have to spell it out because some people were too daft to figure it out. (No offense to those that understood the question)

The authors of the Holy Scriptures wrote that's the way it was, so the answer would be YES, one fought or was impaled. The barbaric slaughter referred to was called "The Ban". To kill all the enemy. Had the Israelites killed all the Amalekites after a victorious battle and the Amalekites killed all the Israelites after victory--there would be no Yahoo Answer, no such question as you set out or even this answer so the answer would be NO. Because their would be no civilization left. Remember the Ban was practiced by those who fought for a reason other than God. Thus, some people cheated and permitted the losers to live. For this we ought to thank God.

1. There were no Christians 3000 years ago. There were Jews no christians.

2. Its ok to defend your religion or country, America does it everyday its called War In Iraq

3. This is also called "barbaric slaughter" which was the only way to fight and have combat, back then they didn't have AK-47's and Ar-15's to blast people away, they used their resources such as Swords, Stones, Spears, all to defend their freedom of religon.

Well Sho, we would not be Christians but Jews no? But, if God called for it sho nuff! God had a reason for those barbaric slaughters that he commanded Saul and others to do at various times. Had they listened we might not be living in such a religious vortex.

Wouldn't have to, God would take care of it.

:
Isa 37:36-37
Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

37 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.

Modern "civilized" people STILL participate in some sort of human slaughter on the behalf of their religious beliefs all the time.

Probably.

Jesus paid the price for the judgement of men now... What part aren't you getting?

Many people use religion as an excuse to commit evil deeds. We've established that.

Quit harping on it, and be more hilarious.

lol.

oh yes! i was probably or would probably been born a heathen or a pagan, therefore i would've hated the Israelite and the god of Isreal because i loved diana or hellen or some other false serpent god.
no other religion is true except MINE. what makes me true to god is the faith i learn either by my parents which could be false, or by the revelations of God. I trust the revelations of God more than my own parents today altogether anyway.

If you are asking would i have fought for God, Yes i would. Because I would have God on my side. And the scriptures say that if you have God on your side, you have the upperhand, you have the majority.

Since Christianity has been around for only 2000 years you wouldn't give a damn.

Three thousand years ago I'd probably have been one of the many wives of the King of Israel.
