Here are a few ideas!
1. You can pick a specific religion like :Christianity, Judaism, Mormon, Baptist and etc and write about just that specific religion. How would you compare and contrast two world religions such as Buddhist, Christian Confucianism, Islam, Hindu, Shinto and Taoism?
What do the major religions teach about life after death?
How would you descirbe the five religion that base their faith on the life or teaching of specific men, such as Muhammad for Islam and Abraham for Judaism?
2. You can write about how a husband and a wife have different religious beliefs and how their different beliefs in religion effect raising children.
3. Write about who is the founder of religion and how it even came to be.
4. Scientology would be a good religion to write about because not many people know about it and are always seeking information about it.
I hope this helps and good luck with your research paper!

Believe and have faith. What does this mean?
Is it possible to prove to our physical senses that a God who is Spirit and intangible to our physical nature is really real and not just a concept, idea or system of beliefs?

Who is man?
Why did Jesus come into the world?
What is perfect love?

I would write about how perhaps all of the religions are true. Maybe God created people and then Buddha enlightened them. Just try not to single out any one religion as being wrong because teachers don't like that.

"The Function of Religion in Society."
That would skip over any partisanship or favoritism for any specific religion and treat all religions equally, as far as what their function is in any particular society. What does a religion do for people in a society? That sort of thing....
