But you should be able to go to a major bookstore and buy a book that contains practice exams.
I used that approach for a civil service job with the state of Virginia. After going thru the practice book twice, I took the real test - and scored in the top 2%. It really helped to practice.

The requirements are up to the specific jurisdiction where the police department is: for example: Suffolk County has a set of specific requirements, the candidate must be a resident, high school graduate. Nassau County, the candidate must have some college (not sure how much). So you will have to check with each County, City and the State Police to find out what you are seeking.
