Depends upon the medicine
I find for small coughs guifenesin works great (read the label)
For really bad cough (like the one I have now) I get prescription codeine cought syrup which is a miracle

If I have a cough I buy simple linctus and i put 2 spoons in a mug with some lemon a bit of honey and add some boiled water when cool drink it and it is soothing and helps the cough only if it is a chest infection I get something from my GP

I remember reading some clinical research on the effectiveness of a major brabded cough medicine. The research proved it did no good at all, that people who took nothing for their coughs felt better than those who took the cough medicine.
The company went on to advertise their product with the slogan "Nothing is better than *******"
My advice...don't waste your money

For me the only ones that work must contain Dextromethorphan. This ingredient in either 15 or 30mg doses seem to work the best and the longest. If you can I suggest you see your primary care doc and ask them. If not try to find some cough meds with this in it. Good Luck>

put 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon of honey into about a quarter glass of warm water stir and drink morning afternoon and night. Better then your cough medicine

some do but dont take to much i had a bad cough once and drank the bottel in a couple of hours i had a reaction my skin around my joints bubbled and i had to hang my head over a pot all nght because i couldnt stop salivating hmmm nice

Yes. If you have a dry cough they will suppress it and if you have chesty cough they will help bring the sputum up.

You have to know which kind of cough you have- dry or chesty.

I suppose they all have some sort of relief but don`t know about curing a cough .. If i have a troublesome cough i usually take Covonia (tastes vile) If it doesn`t cure you it will kill you lol ..

they will stop you from coughing but they don't cure the infection. try pholcodine it tastes lovely
