docs, How is it like being a doctor?

Sorry about your previous answers.
I am an Obstetrician-Gynecologist.
I work in small town America and enjoy helping people.
I am not getting rich.
But I don't lack for anything either.
The works varies from day to day. It includes delivering babies (everyone's favorite part) to doing surgery, treating runny noses and earaches and every now and then saving lives. (Often the person involved does not ever realize that there life was saved.)
It is not the job it was when I started many years ago.
The worst part of the work is filling in papers. I spend more time doing paper work than anything else.
Even now, I have got to get off the computer and get back to paperwork.

I, too, am a small-town ob/gyn ... retired about 3 weeks ago. I would never encourage my children to be docs anymore. That having been said, my belief is that if YOU believe you need to be a doc, nothing anyone says will dissuade you, and you're probably the kind of person we'd like in the profession. There seems to be less and less respect for the effort we expend and the experience and education we have and that has taken a toll on the profession.
