What is this magical effect that people believe a newspaper has anyway? Why would you hit your dog? I have so many questions about the way people treat dogs. They make no sense.
Hitting your dog makes it afraid of you. Very simple. You don't have to resort to muscle to get "through" to your dog. You don't have to touch it to make it "understand".
A two month ANYTHING is a baby. It needs to be shown - gently and with kindness. If it's doing something you don't like, use your voice. Say, "Aaaah!". That alone should be enough to get it's attention and make it stop quickly. When it looks at you, praise and re-direct it to the appropriate thing.
I imagine you're trying to figure out how to discipline inappropriate house soiling, right? Well, a 2 month old dog of any breed is too young to be able to be housetrained. This is a process that can take up to a year for the little one to understand. Don't put too much pressure on him/her to "perform" correctly. Babies of all species need time, patience and the chance to learn.
In the meantime, you should do all you can to learn what to give your puppy NOW so that it can develop into the best dog in the future! Here are some good sites with articles devoted to puppy owners:

http://www.dogtrainingbasics.com/articles.htm
Continue to support your little pup and don't give up, even when there are problems. Even those of us who have had many dogs run into weird problems. But believe me, it's better to PREVENT the problems with appropriately early training and guidance rather than trying to UNDO problems that have been allowed to set in.
Good luck!

Hmm.. I always run without an ipod. What purpose are you running the mile for? Is it for enjoyment or are you aiming to finish first? If you are running it for enjoyment, and all you want to do is to complete the mile; then having an ipod on would be great for you:) However, if you are running the mile as a race, then my advice would be nor to use it. You may get carried away with it and it may affect your run. If I run a mile for a race, I run and I just look straight ahead. All i think about is my breathing, however recently I have automatically started counting my steps..strange huh? haha But if it is a race, the Ipod would be great to get you going before the race. good luck!

He sounds like a perfectly healthy chihuahua pup. Do not hit your baby. Not sure what you want to discipline him for. It is up to you to teach him what is proper behavior and reward him when he does good. Say No firmly when he does something bad/

Fine with the toy issue, and the sooner you train any breed, the better.
