Nilla wafers are delicious, and if I am inclined to purchase some, I usually head over to the crackers & cookie aisle of the grocery store. However, when shopping for fruits and produce, I notice that the Nilla wafers always have their own little wire rack shelf by the apples or something. Why is that???! I don't eat my wafers with fruit...

Usually they are found by the bananas due to a lot of people make banana pudding and cream pies with them . That is what made the nilla wafer so popular .

Banana pudding pie is lined with wafers. I think some people use them for trifle also. I agree with you, the fruit section is a strange place to keep the cookies.

Where I live (St. Louis) they're always in the cookie aisle. That's where I usually find them in other cities too. I would guess that they might be in the produce section near the bananas because they are a key ingredient in a real Southern-style banana pudding, and the grocers are trying to cross market the cookies.

Yes they actually have special washes for fruits and veggies. Even if people didnt touch the fruit, these fruits often sit in a dirty factory or warehouse for awhile. I remember dateline did a piece on these factories and it was soooo disgusting. Rats all over the place, people using the bathrooms and not washing their hands then loading up the fruit. It's best to really wash your fruit real good before you eat them. Vinegar and water is a good wash too... WOW people really squeeze the bread. Yeah that would annoy me too. I think people are trying to really investigate their food but they fail to realize they are bing inconsiderate. A man was arrested once for squeezing all the snack cakes at a grocery store. He was obsessive compulsive so they let him go. Guess we just have to cope.
