No, there's no command in the New Testament about not being involved in politics.

Well, Jesus teachings has done more to change the world than anything ever has. He just didn't accomplish it by being an earthly king with riches and military might.
Politics are not forbidden at all. God wants righteous rulers in judgment over the land. God gave Moses and Solomon and others the wisdom to judge over all the civil justice matters like they were the supreme court. Moses father-in-law gave him some great advice which he implemented and he set up some lower courts so he could get a break now and then but God directed him in those things. Isn't it great that most every civilization that wasn't a tyranny since that time has imitated the basic civil laws in their own societies to maintain justice and order? Our forefathers didn't separate God from their lives of public service and many of our presidents like Abraham Lincoln relied upon wisdom from God's Word and prayer to help them make wise choices for the good of this nation. Aren't you glad they did??
I suppose you would rather folks choose a murdering thief like Barrabas to walk among you and to crucify Jesus? Christians are the salt of the earth. If it weren't for Christians, we might be suffering like other heathen nations. Why can't people realize that righteousness exhalteth a nation? We as citizens are individuals who are responsible as good stewards to be involved in our communtities. You really want only crooked lawyers, greedy business men, homosexuals, atheists, abortion doctors, unscrupulous criminals running this country? (yes, there are already those kinds of wickedness in high places no doubt.) Christians have a sense of justice that is a fair moral balance because of our value system which God Himself designed. You could do much worse like in communist countries. You might stop whining and be thankful for what you have here and all the men and women who bravely fought for the privileges of all men to be free and pursue life and happiness. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Politics aren't forbiden for Christians. But it's hard to live as a Christian where so many aren't. So for many years Christians avoided politics. It's our own fault we haven't been involved when we should be representatives for Christ everywhere, even in the political arena.

The bible commands us to love Lord; keep his laws and commandments; preach the Gospel and be not silent.
Isaiah 62:1
For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem's sake I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch.
Proverbs 11:6
The righteousness of the upright delivers them,
but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.
Proverbs 14:34
Righteousness exalts a nation,
but sin is a disgrace to any people.
Ezekiel 33:12
"Therefore, son of man, say to your countrymen, 'The righteousness of the righteous man will not save him when he disobeys, and the wickedness of the wicked man will not cause him to fall when he turns from it. The righteous man, if he sins, will not be allowed to live because of his former righteousness.'
Romans 9:30
What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith;
Psalm 103:6
The LORD works righteousness
and justice for all the oppressed.
Proverbs 15:9
The LORD detests the way of the wicked
but he loves those who pursue righteousness.
Matthew 5:6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.

You thought right. True Christians do not participate in politics. True Christians are to love first God and second, their neighbors. Politicians are the one declaring war nation against nation when there is conflict. That's not loving their neighbor as themselves at all, is it?

Only certain sects.
Some Protestants believe in separating Church from States.
Others believe the State must reflect God and the Church.
I belive John-Paul II started discouraging Priests from becoming poltical leaders, but he didn't forbid it.
