First of all, no part of the Bible needs to be rewrote.
Anybody that believes in evolution, needs to study the Bible and stop studying science. Science blinds people with science to confuse or overwhelm them by giving an in penetrable explanation using technical terms and concepts.

Even Christians should believe in evolution to some degree or another. For example, if you believe in the story of Adam & Eve (and most Christians do) then you would have to conceed that evolution exists to some degree. Otherwise, how would you explain the vast variation found in humanity today? The bible make no attempt to explain these differences? If there was no evolution we would all be relatively the same color with relatively similar characteristics. We do not find this today, however. Today we find people black, white, hispanic, asian, tall, stout, short, etc...etc...etc. Even the most devout Christian would have to agree that the forces of evolution are clearly at work.

I believe thet Genesis is the truth and lays the very foundation for the rest of scripture. Therefore that puts me under your upstart American church title. So be it but I am British! I certainly believe that God created the universe in 6 days and often wonder why he took so long. After all he could have done it in an instant. God did not denounce evolution because there is no such thing. How can God denounce something that does not exist? All Gods power to the churches that denounce the evolution lie and want to put creation teaching only, in schools. Well said Andy.

Did you know that there are actually two accounts in Genesis?
The first chapter could be seen as support for evolution, actually...
So, why did God include the second account, with the talking snake and the forbidden fruit, and all the rest?
My own thought is that it is mostly a parable...parables are sort of the Lord's M.O. when He has an important point to get across...
So, did God ever actually condone slavery, or did He just give the people rules on how to treat the men and women who found themselves in that situation? In other words, was slavery actually God's idea, or man's?
Women's rights? Check out Jesus Christ, the Man Who loved women! At a time when women weren't even allowed to sit in the sanctuary with the men, Jesus spoke directly to women, as if they were equals! Even Paul, that (supposedly) anti-female Apostle, says that in Christ there IS NO MALE OR FEMALE...all are equal in the sight of God..
Oh, and of course, we've all heard about how a good Christian wife is supposed to submit to her husband as the "head of the house" as the church is to submit to Christ. But have you seen hubby's instructions? He is to love his wife AS CHRIST LOVES THE CHURCH...that's a lot of love, gals! Yes, even to the point where HE IS WILLING TO DIE FOR HER!! Oh, yeah, gimme a husband like that, and he'll have the most submissive li'l wifie since Lucy married Ricky!!.

2 Timothy 3:16 and 17 says that all Scripture is inspired by God for the teaching, reproving and for setting things straight.
Do you or anyone else have more Holy Spirit than those who were inspired to write it?
Modern ways have complemented and enforced what was written so long ago. You just need to be honest with yourself when you read the bible.
Women were suppose to be cared for by their loving husbands, raise children who loved and respected her.
Modern ways have taken most of the at away from women and we see adultery, broken hearts and broken homes. Women working 16 hours a day to provide the necessity's for their children who have been abandon by their father.
I feel that we should take a closer look at what Jehovah has had recorded for us, apply it in our daily lives and see how much happier the whole family is when all scriptures are applied to the whole family.

No, you can't just rewrite the Old Testament just because it doesn't totally reflect modern times. You can write books on why you think it should be changed and how, but the Old Testament is such a vital part to the religion. You can't just change Abraham's story because he had more than wife or anything because most of it isn't totally taken literally. By some it is, but many of the stories are parables with good morals.

the bible should not be edited to satisfy todays world, the teachings and meanings would be lost. modern sentiment is important but isn't grounds for a man/women made decision to alter the word of god or to try reflect the word of god in a way he never intended.

I have totally retranslated Genisis from the original Hebrew and find that it exactly matches with modern scientific thought.
"Darknes on the face of the deep" describes a singularity prior to "Let there be light " The big bang.
Let the earth bring forth the creatures of the sea. = evolution.
One "day" = one GOD day which is not the same as an earth day.
YES IT IS TIME

No need, Genesis doesn't say 24-hour-day.
As far as the slavery and debasement of women, that's cultural history. I'm glad in this modern day, but I'm okay with learning about history.

You can't just up and re-write the Old Testament...just like in textbooks, you can make revised editions that can offer more information, clarification or insight however you'd like, but it is never rewritten as the same book under the same title to replace the older version altogether.
