My black lab bordier collie mix often has intestinal problems, she's one of those dogs that will eat anything she finds outside and gets various fruits and vegies and sometimes ice cream from us once every few days along with her food. She's well exercised so the food isn't making her overweight. Are there any natural remedies we could give her, she gets diahrea once every few months instead of taking her to the vet each time? We adopted her when she was 6 weeks and she arrived with all sorts of intestinal problems then.

If there's no serious issues (like parasites or gastric torsion or something) try dietary changes.

No ice cream. Take out the dairy products first. Don't give the dog people ice cream because it has a lot of sugar, lactose, and sometimes a lot of fat (depending on the variety) and that could be a culprit.

Start with a simple, very basic and neutral diet. Try a dry dog food that isn't "super-premium" (that is, high-protein.) Add a little cooked rice, maybe a little chicken. Keep the fat low. If that works, attempt other additions, like spinach, tomatoes, cooked carrots, maybe some vegetable juice. Pasta, ground beef. Just try different things until you find something OK for your dog's gut.

And if garbage-eating is a continual problem, get her a muzzle. It doesn't have to be big and cumbersome, just a loop to keep her mouth shut enough that she can't eat unless you take it off. Usually, a dog can still pant and lap through a muzzle, but can't bite or eat.

My dog has a super-sensitive tummy and we've tried probably twenty different dog foods. Some are better, some worse. Don't feed canned food--ugh. That gives her diarrhea every time.

See if the diet helps, and if it doesn't, check for allergies next.

our dog used to have that problem too. He is a black lab Chesapeake mix and we would give him rawhide like 3 times a week. once for 3 days in a row we came home to a mess in his kennel. We stopped giving him rawhide right away and put him on the vet's food created for sensitive stomachs and intestine problems. He ate only that and dog biscuits and it was all good. The vet food was real expensive though so we put him on science Diet Sensitive Stomach and he has been fine ever since. I would suggest not feeding him people food as this may be the cause of him getting sick and its not generally good for the animal(although veggies & fruit are everyonce in a while) we still dont give him rawhide and no people food at all(just small veggies) good luck!

A diet consisting of raw meaty bones.

Dogs are carnivores, CARNIVORES! and are not designed to eat the crap that is in kibble. Look it up. It's true. Their teeth are designed for ripping and tearing, their digestive tracts are short and highly acidic. Dogs don't have the necessary enzymes to break down plant matter.

Do some research on raw diet and switch them over asap. She will thrive.

A dog eating the correct diet in correct quantities and proportions won't eat garbage off of the ground because the dog will be full and content, and her body will be extracting all of the nutrients it requires.

Know why dogs will stop getting the squirts if you put them on a different kibble? Because all the crap in the kibble plugs up their digestive systems.

My German Shepherd Dogs eat the same stuff we do, except without the side dishes, and without the heat.

And I throw 'em each a beef kidney and a beef liver every once in a while.

Buy a muzzle they use for greyhounds. Does not restrict breathing and they can still lap up water, but they cannot pick anything up off the ground.

We went through this with one of our dobermans. She was entered in an AKC sanctioned show in the 6-9 month puppy class. 2 days before the dog show, she ended up sick. Needless to say, she'd eaten sticks and rocks and caused a blockage, and needed immediate surgery. We could not keep her from eating stuff off the ground. The vet loaned us a greyhound muzzle, and every time she went out, she had to have it on. It took a good 6 months of her wearing it, but it broke her of it.

Your dog has probably been on Flagyl most of her life then

any form of chewie might reason digestive blockage no longer purely greenies. Any time your dogs is chewing on something you ought to be monitoring him. considering she has gone by way of a blockage contained in the previous i might unquestionably shop an intensive eye on her for any differences in habit. uncertain if an x-ray now might do any good because of the fact it would desire to nevertheless be in her abdomen and you does no longer comprehend if it passing by way of or no longer until eventually it gets to the decrease intestines.
