My 5yr old granddaughter gets high fevers constantly-has anybody gone thru the same thing?

Her doctors don't know what causes them. They have done so many different test on her and they can't seem to find anything. She has been to Childrens hospital in Houston and also in Tenn.
but still nothing. She has been like this since she was 6month old.

The doctors call them fevers of unknown origin right My 8 yr old has had then since he was 14 months old. All I have been told is that it is cause my an immune system malfunction. Their bodies think there is an infection when there isnt one and reacts by causing a fever. By now I have learned that unless there are other symtoms it does no good to go to the ER unless it is so high that a seizure occurs I just treat them with a fever reducer and go on with life watching for any new symtoms

Hi Lola! It saddens me to see this things happening to a child. May I suggest a specialist for allergy. She might be allergic to something. She has to be tested first of what is causing it. Please get a very good one because constant fever indicates something is triggering it. Usually babies have natural defences until the 3rd month and up to his/her internal defence mechanism to kick in after that. I would not like to diagnose your grandaughter because I have not examined her. How high is her fever? Does it happens when there is a change of weather? Pollen season? Or was she taking something before the fever starts? Are there any similar cases in your family? Any genetic illness in your family (both her father & mother side) like Asthma, Diabetes, respiratory problems, allergy to any sort? She might have inherited that. Good luck and I pray for her health. I wish I can help more.

My friends son had high fevers since he was born also! He is now 3.5 years old and just had his tonsils taken out-his doctors couldn't find the problem for years. They finally figured out that his tonsils were causing this and he hasn't had any fevers since. His tonsils had a lot of scarring on them from all the infections that were causing his fever.
