The first time I got my blood taken I was petrified. I hate needles. I didn't have a choice really. I was SOOOOO scared beyond belief. Let me tell you it was nothing. When it was over I couldn't believe I was being such a baby about it. Trust me it doesn't hurt, just don't look. The anticipation is the worst part. The only thing you really feel is the needle going in, it feels like a quick ant bite. once it is in you feel nothing at all. Coming out you can't feel either. Pinch your skin on the opposite side of your elbow in the crease with your nail.(that's normally where they get the blood.) Fell that, that's worse than the needle!!!!
However not to scare you but personally I will not let them draw blood from anywhere but in that area, because anywhere else hurts me. I know I shouldn't tell you that, but it is the truth for me anyway.
Remember it is not an injection, it is a withdraw. Injections are far worse!!

Well I am a medico and I don't like needles either! I don't mind giving them but i am just as aprehensive about receiving them as you.
Now lets look at the benefits over the brief discomfort. If you have something wrong with you what better and faster way to find out and get the right treatment than having a blood test?
Most nurses who work in Doctors surgerey are more skilled at it then the doctor, so see if you can get a nurse to do it.
As for forcing you? yes you are a minor and your parents can insist. But just remember mum is not doing this to hurt you, she is doing it out of her love for you and your health. So be good and just have that 30 seconds of discomfort for her and your own sake. OK?

We all have to do things that we don't want to do sometimes. As long as the situation isn't abuse I think you'll have to go honey.
About 10yrs ago, I was really sick. I had to go to thew doctor almost every week and had to send a week a month at the hospital to take tests. A LOT of needles. I used to hold me breath and breath out very slowly a couple times before the needle. I would bring my walkman. I wouldn't look at the doctor. I told them I didn't want to know what was happening. A lot of pain for a very very long time.
Now, It isn't that I like them, but I don't mind so much.
Good luck

Don't be scared.....it's not as bad as you are picturing it in your mind. Just close your eyes and let the nurse do the rest. You'll be ok. And since you're only 13, you Mother can make you go, especially for medical reasons. You'll be just fine hun.

She CAN force you---I'm quite sure she isn't doing it without a good reason!
It doesn't hurt any more than a fly-bite, and stops hurting immediately.
Just don't look while they do it.
You'll find that your fear & dread of the blood test were harder than the test itself!

Just get the blood test done. if you have a good doctor they will do it right and it wont hurt as bad. mention to the doctor that your scared and want them to to be gentle. like i do. and it works evertime.
