Okay, my cat is a feral cat(or was a feral kitten when we found him) and he was bad at first but now he's nice. But now that it's winter he doesn't go out much(this is his first winter) and for some reason he cries a lot near the windows and the doors now. It sounds sometimes that he's in pain when he goes into these crying/howling phases. Not only that, but this cat has been showing up a lot more around my backyard. Before, when I first got him, this cat used to bully my cat and what not but now they seem to be hanging out a lot more and everytime i try getting my cat back inside, the other cat runs off and my cat follows suit. Why has my cat become this way? He never used to cry before but now he cries almost everyday, as if he wants to go outside with this other cat.

P.S. I don't think my cat is a female since I took him to the vet to get medicine(he had an ear infection but that's besides the point) and on the prescription it says he's male. But of course I can't really be sure. I wasn't there when my parents took them. But do male cats usually attack female cats? Because the other day my cat entered the other cat's territory I think since we could hear them screaming and scratching at each other. My dad threw a rock at the other cat and it broke up the fight. so I really don't think that my cat is female unless males attack them.

Is your cat neutered? Maybe the other cat is in heat.

is your cat fixed? if not that is probably your problem. it is kitty love for sure. my cat is an inside cat now, she was a stray. we have stray cats that come up to the back door and she is very territorial. oh she turns into a monster when they come up to the door. she always does it to the males but female cats she doesn't seem to have a problem. but anyway, I'm rambling sorry. i would say that your kitty is having a love affair. it would be best to keep your cat inside. you never know what dangers are out there. Ive heard and seen some real horror stories. one was a large hawk took off with one of the cats that live outside, i saw it with my own eyes. also, i think maybe you may have a female and wants to get outside with her lover. haha good luck

My cats are the same way, if one cat is much younger than the other one, he may look at your cat, or the yours may look at the other one, as a mother/ father. I have a 6 month old kitten and a 12 year old adult, and my kitten often jumps out of my hands and screams when my older cat is not around or when she is walking away. My cats used to hate eachother, but now they treat eachother like mother and son. Cats usually gain a bond between eachother, the longer they stay together, your cats have just bonded, nad are sticking together as potential mates and freinds. (potential mate is the two are opposite gender)

Are you sure your cat is a male? Certainly sounds like a female in heat. If it is a male, there must be a female in heat that he senses. Get your cat sterilized whatever it is and you won't have this problem anymore.

my mum used 2 breed cats...there r a LOT of good cat books--go 2 that amazing book web site & look them up BUT MEANTIME, pay attention 2 detail: like body language esp. ie: if yr cat is hunched low to ground he is giving dominance to the other; does it smell like skunk outside yr door? use vinegar to clean if the other cat has 'sprayed' (marked territory) look 4 marks & after cleaning put pure peppermint oil on the mark 2 warn the other one 2 stay away...perhaps that cat has real aggressive issue with yrs..other than that, taking cat to vet is GOOD thing esp IF cat is older; there may b sumthn else goin on!!

If the other cat is a girl she could be in heat or they could of made a close friendship (your cat probably gets lonely with no other cats) , Try to catch the other cat and take it to the pound or try and tame so yall can all be friends!

my cats do the same. They prefer to go out at night as they see very well at night and can hide well.

I let my cats out but in winter it is not a good thing unless you have a way for the cat to come inside when it gets too cold for him/her.

No one should have cats inside their homes all the time...that is CRUEL.

keep in mind your cat wants to go out and have fun and explore, just let him/her do it.

is he fixed? neutered?
if not, that is probably the reason. he wants to mingle with the lady cats in the neighborhood, and that other cat that he hangs around with is either his girlfriend, or the cat that he competes with for women.
