Break the word down. Disciple? Where did that come from? Discipline? What does that mean to you? What does Webster say?
To me, it means a certain discipline of behaviors. A way to be. A way of living in a well ordered, well controlled behavior pattern.
To know how that is applied to Jesus Christ, you would have to take a very close look at Him, his character, his behavior, his words and learn how he felt about each and every situation while we walk through this window of time we call life.
He came, told us why he came, showed us how to live in a more pleasant and successful way and in such a way that is packed with eternal rewards as a result.
The Scripture declares "you will know them by their love." To identify, you must first have a solid understanding of what that word "love" means, especially in the context that it was written. Certainly a vastly different definition than what is generally used and understood around the world today. Love is a many faceted word that usually includes great personal sacrifice and committment. Something the average man finds it hard to do.
Only the true can make the muster and then only with help. God provides the power and his words give you direction and his church gives you guidance and support.
If you really do want to know, I suggest you first go to Him in prayer seeking Him. Second, read, read, read the Bible and learn the mind of God and how He sees things. Suggest starting with Gospel of John in the New Testament and read Proverbs for quick study. If your heart and mind are open, you'll be surprised at how much you will learn. Allow Him to communicate with you.
Find a Bible Based Church with leaders and teachers that will walk with you through your learning search and nurture you and answer your questions. Faithfulness is key. The Scriptures declare "Seek and Ye Shall Find."
Be advised it isn't an easy walk, but is attainable and worth more than any other possible endeavor.

tough question. can anyone really be a disciple of jesus. or ARE MOST people disciples of men that do not teach the gospel true?
a disciple of jesus is taught by the Holy Ghost, Jesus said very clearly he will send the Comforter, and He will LEAD you into all truth.
but truth is not taught in a day or two, it is taught line upon line precept upon precept. here a little there a little.
Sometimes the baptism of the spirit precedes the baptism of water, but a person must be worthy to receive the greater things of the light because those that receive the greater things are obligated to GIVE more, therefore is somone cannot Run Faster than he can receive, that same person becomes a greater liability to himself. Ask sincerely and be not deceived, the tempter also comes with false revelations meant to deceive.

A disciple is a student of a particular teacher or of a particular teaching. To be a disciple of Christ is to both learn and follow His teachings. It is not a matter of "doing" as much as it is of "being." When we understand what being born again really means, we realize that we have a brand new life in Christ. The Spirit of Christ comes to live in us and all those unique talents and gifts that we have are open for the Lord to use. What that simply means is we will always have choice in how to use the abilities God has given us. When we choose to honor God with our talents then our lives reflect who He is by what we do. So our natural response to our new way of "being" is in doing what God has asked--love God, love others.

v. 1-18 constitute the prologue which introduces many of the major themes that John will treat, especially the main theme that "Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God". Although John wrote the prologue with the simplest vocabulary in the NT, the truths which the prologue conveys are the most profound. Six basic truths about Christ as the Son of God are featured in the prologue. 1. The eternal Christ (vv. 1-3) 2. The incarnate Christ (vv. 4-5) 3. The forerunner of Christ (vv. 6-8) 4. The unrecognized Christ (vv. 9-11) 5. The omnipotent Christ (vv.12-13) 6. The glorious Christ (vv. 14-18) John borrowed the use of the term "Word" not only from the vocabulary of the OT but also from Gr. philosophy, in which the term was essentially impersonal, signifying the rational principle of "divine reason", "mind", or even "wisdom". John, however, imbued the term entirely with OT and Christian meaning (e.g., Gen. 1:3 where God`s Word brought the world into being. Pss.33:6, 107:20, Prov. 8:27 where God`s Word is His powerful self-expression in creation, wisdom, revelation, and salvation) and made it refer to a person, i.e., Jesus Christ. "Word" serves as a bridge-word to reach not only Jews but also the unsaved Greeks. John chose this concept because both Jews and Greek were familiar with it. MIMI

To be a diciple of Jesus Christ is to walk in a mirror image. To walk his foot steps. To let Christ come forth, and put aside yourself.
To be a true diciple of Christ, you would look like Christ, Cause it would be more of him and less of you.
Today I see more talkers than walkers sadly but truly. The more that show Christ, the more I think would be saved.
We do it, by being obidient and giving of our full heart, mind and soul. To allow our vessles to flow with the Love of Christ and to put aside the darkness of our flesh, so the Light of the Fathers Spirit can shine!

I remember before I became a Christian I used to tell my Christian friends what I would do if I was a Christian. Well, I was wrong. You can't know before you are saved what you will do after you are saved. So it's different for everyone to some degree. I realize that my salvation is secure and whatever happens to me I will be safe and happy forever with God, so while I'm here I want to think of other people who don't have this joy or this hope and to love everyone like Jesus loves us, even unto death. To let God show His love through me.

20. and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Jesus said that if you love him you will keep his commandments. We aren't saved by obeying the law but we keep the law because we love him. His disciples proclaim the power in his name and live it.
