selected human breeders as carefully as we select livestock breeders? We wouldn't have to kill anyone. Everyone could live out their natural life...but selective breeding would dictate forced sterilization. What would the world be like if we selectively bred humans for health and intelligence? (Don't say this is a Hitler idea. He killed people in droves to accomplish his goals.)

lol you sound like my husband...he often says that we should begin issuing permits to have children, so so many trashy people wouldnt have children and people could actually be decent parents.

I personally haven't procreated due to the fact I grew up with selective breeding on a horse farm.Of course with the pursuing of the absolute best genetics you can get into inbreeding etc etc...but I have always thought that is a great idea.I do not condone any type of "breeding" experiments of Christmas Past i.e.Nazi era experiments..but I do see the pro and cons of doing this. You could evolve the human race in some cases but then again could create racism due to people having their favorite strains or "breeds" as it is with show animals.

It's not a new idea. But there's a few unanswered questions:

Who gets to breed? And who gets forced sterilization? Who decides? How will you enforce those decisions? What will you do with people who rebel? What characteristics will you breed for? Would it make the world a better place? What do you mean by better? Who gets to decide what's better? All these questions, and many more, would have to be fought over.

Yes, it would require something like a Hitler regime to enforce this brave new world -- and that would not be better.

It's STILL a "Hitler idea". Just because you don't kill off everyone doesn't mean that your still not employing a "survival of the fittest" ideology. Hitler was an evolutionist who believed in "survival of the fittest". Please tell me how you think preventing a certain group of people from "breeding" is not genocide. The Europeans did that to the Native Americans when they arrived, mating with their women to cause the full-blooded Indians to die out. That's still genocide.
And since evolution is a religion and didn't occur, then those who hold this ideology are without excuse for their actions.

That's an interesting thought. I don't really know how I would feel about it. I think their should be intelligence tests to have children. That sounds mean but honestly, people who are uneducated, unemployed, etc. keep popping out kids. Would the world be a better place? I don't know. You just have to consider that if we were all extremely intelligent, then well, we wouldn't be intelligent anymore. I mean relatively, because there wouldn't be a range of IQs, but rather everyone would be about the same. Not that this is an argument against selective breeding. Sh*t, I just don't know. That's a tough one to think about and effectively answer.

Wow, how Orwellian of you, Gandalf! lol
Interesting experiment.. if we bred them for health and intelligence, would that necessarily make this a better world?
I know some not so smart people who are the kindest, most loving examples of humanity on the planet.
Many serial killers are also extremely intelligent.. Hitler was a good example of a mentally derranged genius. Are you sure you want to limit the selection to health and intellect?

I think that the human race might be better off, but I don't think we should go out of our way to do it. Just labelling which people are superior than others would be WAY too much. But if it happened accidentally, then I guess that would be good.

Feeling ballsy tonight, eh Gandalf?

Edit... by the way, the US and England engaged in the mandatory sterilization of the mentally ill through the 1930s... wait another 130 years and see if it helped (?).

It is in our nature to destroy ourselves, hasn`t history taught us this, with selective breeding we could still do it but in a more technical way.

Eugenics is a fine idea in principle but it rarely works in real life.
I know geniouses who's children are flighty idiots, and vice-versa.
