Peeling out in a grand am would be a pathetic thing to see.

Leave that to the classic muscle cars like a 442, or 'Cuda

Back in the old days when cars were built out of chrome, steel and sex appeal, it didn't matter if your car was stick our automatic. Sure, pulling the clutch out early in first gear made noise, but we were also able to execute brake stands as well. A brake stand was possible due to the pressure difference for the rear wheels, which allowed the front wheels to be locked up while you spun the back ones. Now, enter the eighties, nineties and post-Y2K era. not a lot of cars have rear-wheel drive anymore. Front-wheel drive has proven to be more effective in weather, is cheaper to manufacture with unibody construction, and with the engine now installed sideways, saves cab room. The only problem is that the front wheels now have to not only provide the main stopping power, they provide the sole source of driving power to the vehicle as well. So, holding the brake pedal down and torquing the wheels will do absolutely nothing but put unneeded force on your CV joints. The only way you can burn out in a Grand Am is by: popping the car in neutral, revving the engine up to about 4000 or 5000 rpm, and then dropping the gear into drive. This will get the wheels spinning, but at the same time is a really retarded move because of the added force to the CV joints and the transmission.

Personally, the best way to do a burnout is find something cheap with rear-wheel drive to beat to death. My advice is get a van from a public works or the city that you can pick up for a couple hundred bucks and beat the f**k out of, unless you like replacing CV joints.

Front wheel drive makes it kinda tough with that car, especially if you have the 4 cyl. You could try a brake stand, by using the e-brake. You could also try this ( we did this years ago with cars that didn't have any power) , ( this is also really lame ) pour about a pint of motor oil over each of your front tires. Get in and put it to the floor. Then you'll need to go to the car wash and clean all the oil off your car. Sorry, those are the only ways I know of with a FWD Grand Am. AND, DON'T do a neutral drop.

It's something called a "neutral drop". Put the transmission into neutral, rev that mofo up, and drop the trans into Drive. Keep your foot on the gas though or the tires will grab and you'll just get a little chirp with a lunge.
You can also just stand on the brake pedal and gas at the same time. Your rear brakes will hold the car back enough for the front tires to break loose if the car still has enough guts to it.

Although I've done both, I don't recommend either. You'll trash your transmission with the "neutral drop" and you'll trash your breaks with the other option. (Have fun though and burn the **** out of them while you can)

How To Peel Out

My brother taught me this trick...

Keep your left foot firmly planted on the brake but press down the accelerator at the same time. Once you feel the car start to pull (and assuming you have a green light - or an open stretch of road) let her go! It will take a little practice to get it right with your car.

Keep in mind that some states give ticket for squealling tires... Try this at your own risk (I had to put that disclaimer in there)! HA!

You should be asking "Why do I want to peel out in any car?" Those of us who have driven for many years have learned the hard way to be careful. There are enough traffic problems that you can not avoid which might get you into trouble with the law or worse. These is no good reason to go looking for trouble by showing off behind the wheel.

Dont rev in neutral and then drop, your traction control wont let you unless you take t off...... The best way that I myself have done it is, push all the way down on your brakes, (not the hand brake) just your brakes.....at the same time push all the way down on the gas.......so puch down on both to the piont where both are floored....your engine will rev to about 3500-4000 rpm, and the front of your car will raise up.....then quickly take your foot off the brake(and i mean quickly) that should give you a nice little burn out......nothing big cause your car doesnt have alot of power, but enough to cause some attention.....

so you want to peel ehh,, well I have just the trick for you :+)
100 feet marks with a grand am easy !!!!!:+)
first do you like the car ???? if so don't !!!!!!!!!!! do this
but if its a **** box that's on its last lags drive down the road get going at a good speed, ohhhh lets say around 60m :+) drop the car in to neutral rev the carp out it
then :+) wammmm reverse find out how good your motor mounts are !!! (this is a joke don't do this !!!) but as bad as that sounds i have seen it done..
doing burn outs may be cool and all but it is so hard on gear its not really worth it , when you're on your 3rd trany in a year you will say that too ....... but saying that the easiest way to burn up a front wheel drive car is called a roll back back up with the car not at a high rate of speed just so its rolling cut the wheel hard one way put it in neutral rev it then shift to first gear and hammer it if you have the wheel cut one why it will burn longer
but like i said not good on tranys there is not really any safe way to do a burn out even in a rear wheel drive car its hard on gear
but if you want to play you have to pay !!!
