Here are things that have always worked for me.... I'm a teacher, so there are certain times of the year that are very stressful!
I call a friend or my mom and vent to them... (I can sometimes do this with my husband, but he has a tendency to tune me out after a while... my mom and my friends won't do that.)
Sometimes, I enjoy a night out with friends... talking about everything under the sun. No teacher talk allowed.
I like to take a hot bath and listen to music... I also like to read a magazine or do a puzzle in the bathtub -- no serious subjects allowed!
Sometimes, I just like to sit outside and breathe in some fresh air!
A good massage also can work wonders.
A good margarita can also relieve stress!
There are times when I just have to tell my husband that I need a night off -- that's when we go out to dinner.
If I'm really stressed, I will ask my husband to do the cleaning. I try to make it worth his while...
Sex is also good... the better the sex, the more relaxing it can be!

Exercise is one of the best ways!!! It really works. Theres so many forms of exercise - one to suit anyone.
Another is to do relaxation techniques. Just taking 20 minutes or so and lying down. Then just concentrating on your breathing and then concentrating on different areas and muscles of the body and tensing them and then relaxing them. Just slowly making your body relax and then your mind relaxes as well.
Trying to remove or deal with the issues that are causing the stress helps too. For example - If you are overloaded then take time out and prioritise your workload. Or if it is a relationship issue then try to sort it out.
Ongoing stress can be detrimental to our health. Can lead to depression and / or anxiety problems, which can lead to other illness of our body. There is only so much stress our body can take before it affects us physically and mentally.
Hope that helps!

Exercise is best for me, nothing like a good workout to take away the tension. But there are a lot of ways. Do something you really enjoy. Listen to some music. Go for a long walk and look around and see the world when you do. Go see a movie. Read a good book.

things work differently for different people. I know taking a hot bath and just kicking back and relaxing seems to help me. Sometimes taking a nice long walk in the mountains. It really all depends on what you really enjoy doing. Do something that you really enjoy doing.

Meditate
You can buy guided meditation CD's and listen to them before you go to sleep. You will then learn how to put yourself in that happy place when things get stressful.

I always just kick back and chill. When I'm stressed I'll usually take a bath or something. It always works for me.
