Carl Sagan said that evolution is a fact.
I don't know if he was right or wrong. I believe in God, I am a Christian, but I've never seen anything in the Bible to convince me that evolution is or is not a fact. The Bible is not a science textbook, nor was it intended to be. God is not foolish enough to give us detailed instructions on how to construct a universe and create life.
As for Carl Sagan's final destination, I didn't know the man, so I have no ideas about that. Personally, I don't believe in an eternal fiery torture pit. God doesn't need or want that kind of childish vengeance. That idea of hell is a human invention, and has nothing to do with the Christian God.

Carl Pagan, er, Sagan, was wrong. He was affected by the skepticism he learned throughout his life, and by faulty theories that were taught him religiously in his postsecondary schooling. There are thousands of scientific facts that deny evolution and support the idea that the Earth is young and there was a worldwide Flood. Because it is a very in-depth subject, I can't list everything here. I would suggest reading "The Evolution Cruncher" by Vance Ferrell. It is an excellent book for people who are just looking for facts. It contains about 5,000 facts that you will never learn in a public school or most universities, because they are dead-set on you learning the philosophy of evolution.
As far as where he is now, my religion believes that Hell does not currently exist, but will exist at the end of the Millennium, when all the wicked dead of all ages, including Carl, will be resurrected to judgment. Then fire will come down from Heaven and consume him. He will not be tortured for eternity. The doctrine of eternally burning hellfire does not come from the Bible - it is a misinterpretation of what the Bible says, combined with ancient Greek and Roman paganism.

I read Dragons of Eden and I cannot figure out if Carl Sagan was religious or not. I would think he is much too intelligent to believe in that crap but he could have been brainwashed since he was very little.

Only a Cartesian or a nihilist can intellectually deny the reality and TRUTH of evolution. And that would just be for fun anyway.
The overwhelming scientific evidence is proof of evolution. Without citing the bible/torah/koran (or 'god forbid' the book of mormon), and without citing 'faith/belief'. Can you offer any 'proof' that evolution is not true, that 11 billion years can happen in 7 days, that there is ANYTHING beyond that which we can sense or measure?
Why MUST there be a God...so that you feel your life has true meaning? Or because you were threatened as a child with burning forever in the depths of hell if you didn't believe without doubt.
Carl is not in Hell. He lives in perpetual fond memory in the minds of many, and will for the history of humanity. That is an afterlife worth 'living'.

It is none of my business if Carl Sagan is in Hell
I do think he was wrong about evolution . . . I also think he was beginning to understand that there has not been enough time for evolution to have worked, like science originally purposed.
I think that is why he and other of his 'time' were looking "off world" for a seed bearer . . . a theory that life came to this planet from somewhere else.
btw . . . that is what Christians believe, ifyathinkaboutit!

Evolution is a fact. The mechanisms of evolution are what the theorists debate. Carl Sagan is dead.

Carl Sagan isn't in some imaginary place of eternal torment.
Evolution IS a fact. If one actually has studied it, they will agree.

If Carl said something about evolution-- that is nice.
What Carl might have said about evolution has NOTHING to do with if Carl got to Heaven or not.
I have no idea of Car ls philosophy or beliefs so I can not even hazard a wild guess.
