Without the atonement or any hope of the atonement al we would have is sinful flesh which perishs...our hope for an eternal life would depend on God either not being righteous or our ability to somehow do what we are not capable of doing and becoming righteous...I would have to pray God is not righteous which is a scray proposition or accept the fact that I will persish with my sinful flesh....I think I would eat drink and be merry because the end is not good and all I have is this temporary evil world. Praise be to God he is righteous and merciful and he provided us a Savior.

You have every right to ask a hypothetical question, and no you are not being heartless.

Those christians who are complaining, are doing so because they "think" you are attacking their beliefs.
Christians are so drawn (brainwashed) into their beleifs that they cannot think of any other possible concept where something different happened (as you are suggesting by your hypothetical question) and they are completely unable to think about any other possibility other than what they know. Thats how much they accept what they are told. And how little they read, and learn for themselves.

Not to mention they are probably terrified at the thought of trying to live without their crutch - which is what religion is. Everything good happens because of Jesus. Everything bad happens because of satan. Nothing bad ever happens because they did something wrong. Its always satan's fault.

Other than the hypocrisy, the second biggest problem I have with religion is the lack of responsibility that is rampant within their ranks. They collectively refuse to accept responsibility for their own and others actions. Thats why I call christianity a crutch.

Now to get back to the question, in your hypothetical situation, I think Deism would be the religion of the day. The perfect design of nature is proof of Gods existance, reason and logic are worshipped and having an open mind is mandatory.

Interesting question but it doesn't make sense from a Christian point of view...

Firstly it's not like you weigh up the pros and cons of each belief system and go with the one that you think will give you the most plus points. I go with the line of theologian Karl Barth who basically found from his thinking and experience that Jesus was right in saying he said that "I am the life" or he is truth or hope or peace or kindness or joy. If you believe Jesus defines life, it doesn't make sense to think of life without Jesus. The more alive you are, the closer to Jesus you are... and visa versa.

Secondly Jesus didn't just begin with the incarnation (when he was born as a human). The begining of John's Gospel, for example talks about how he's been around from the begining, and was working through Jewish history. From a Christian perspective Jewish literature (as well as being meaningful in its own right as God revealing himself to the Jewish people) is also packed full of "film trailers" summerising points of the life, death and resurection of Jesus. There are also examples of it in non Jewish religeous literature.

The reoccuring theme of a sacraficial lamb for example, or covenant of God with his people, or resurection.
From a Christian mindset this is all linked to Jesus.

Hope that helps - perhaps I'm just lacking imagination here!

It is very hard to imagine the world without Jesus. The world has always been a nasty, cruel place. Jesus tried hard to bring a little love...but even His own followers have a hard time with HIs teachings.
I guess, if Jesus had never come, we'd have no hope at all.
I suppose I'd probably be Wiccan, since my heritage is Celtic. I'd be much happier as a Wiccan than as a Jew or a Muslim, I'm pretty sure.

Ok. since you acknowledge it's hypothetical, i'll be nice enough to answer. Judiasm would most likely be the predominatnt religion because it would spread to Europe then across the Atlantic while Hinduism and Buddhism would be contained in Europe. Therefore, many Christians today would be Jewish. However, there would probably be some offshoots, but probably not Islam as we know it today since Islam relies partially on Jesus' teachings.

it would be very...interesting where the world was today. adolf hitler probably would not have been able to convince the germans everything was the jews' fault because a lot of them would have been jewish.

I think that we wouldn't be here today. The Earth would have become so violent and depraved that you couldn't even enjoy the relative security you enjoy today in this country. This country (as we know it) wouldn't even exist, because it was founded on Biblical prinicples. We would have some pagan dictatorship - we wouldn't even have the corrupt Catholic Church of the Dark Ages. It would be even worse than that. We'd be throwing our babies into the fire to appease some volcano god. We'd be like those island people on "King Kong". We'd be eating each other and immorality would be even more rampant than it is today, and to top it off, when we'd die, we'd die forever. No Heaven. I'm really glad Christ came.

If Jesus had never been born, there would be no hope for life.

What is the force that has kept this planet from destroying itself? Morality.

Why is there morality?

Because of the influence of Christianity and its foundational core as lived by ancient Israel.

We would all be Doomed without any hope. The law of Moses showed that we could not keep the law and there would be no salvation. We would be just like a atheist are today, lost without any hope.

Had there been no Jesus of Nazareth, the Romans would probably still be in power. They tolerated all religions, so we would probably be in the same messed up condition in which we find ourselves today....
