I'm on a very tight budget, I'm hoping for less than $600. But I need a Digital SLR with a lens, (not necesarily with, but I need to get both for less than $600) Are there any even out there that cheap? If so, what kinds are the best?

The Nikon D50 can be had with a lens for $500:

I don't know much about them, as I'm not a Nikon guy.

The Canon Rebel XT/350D is $600 with the kit lens:

If you can spend a little bit more, you can get the Rebel XTi/400d:

I think that the 400D is a significant improvement over the 350D and worth the extra money.

Good luck with your decision!

At your budget, no doubt to get a Canon 350D. Small and light camera body in size best for ladies.
Canon DSLR has got good noise control, good color and contrast. Lenses are cheaper as compared to Nikon.

STick to Nikon or Canon. The D40 should be ok. But I would target the D80 for a bit more.

I could strongly recommend the Nikon D70s.
Mine is great a real fool proof camera with great battery life. It doesn't take long to sus it out and become part of you.
