What do you mean rest of the country.
I'm in the UK and it's one of the first things I look at.
Wearing a ring & I leave alone.

You were probably "trained" to do this because it is respectful. It is disrespectful to ask out a girl that is married. I live in the North and I am not married. I think that men throughout the country are different. When I meet someone from the South, they are usually a southern gentleman. Some guys though don't care whether a girl has a ring or not, they will still approach them. But don't be fooled.. sometimes a girl will wear a ring on her wedding finger with a heart on it. If the heart is pointing towards you she is looking for love, but if the heart is pointing towards her then she is in love. Hope this helped =)

I am from the frozen tundra of Michigan and I have always checked for wedding rings when I meet up with men. While I was in the Air Force, however, this one really nice and very attractive guy kept chatting me up but never asked me out. I did the ring check and noticed he wasn't wearing one so I sucked up my courage and asked him to have a cocktail with me. He then fessed up that he was married. When I mentioned the absence of a wedding ring, he cited that he worked on heavy machinery and it wasn't safe to wear it. I was pretty embarrassed, but oh well, life do go on.

Yes I think most guys tend to look at the left hand first to see if a ring is present. Not sure how much that really prevents guys from making a move anyways now and days.

Yes, I think so. Thats the first thing you do because most women wear wedding rings so you know if you even have a chance right off the bat.

It used to be true--that most people did look--but even tho you wear your ring its like that doesn't matter--I was out with my girlfriends one night (girls nite out) and this guy comes up and asks me to dance--(I am married) and anyway I say thank you but no--and he leaves --comes back again and asks again--I say no thank you again--he looks at my hand and says oh you are married what are you even doing here ?? I look at his hand he too has a ring and I ask him the same --he says he is out looking for some strange--and that I was doing the same--I wanted to deck him---I haven't but a few rare times ever gone to a club without my husband again--the nerve--of some folks--

No..I wish more men and women were like you. You were raised right and it sounds like you have respect for others..not just out there to fufill your needs and not care what you destroy ... most men and women, in todays world, could care less ...
I give you applause and you should give yourself a pat on the back..I hope you find that perfect woman you deserve...

I live in the DC area and most guys ignore rings.
Hence, I am married with two kids and have been asked out and turned down men.
Sad fact in this area, but true.

I never thought about that actually. I just kind of knew who I would hit it off with and I never came across a situation where there was a husband or boyfriend.
