Once you get a couple weeks behind you (which it sounds like you've done before) the worst thing is being around other smokers. If you can avoid them it will help. I also set time frames a couple of times before I quit for good. Start out by committing to one year smoke free. Tell everyone you know when you've set a start date. The added embarrassment of being seen as a liar will help motivate you. Once the year has passed reevaluate whether you want to smoke or not. Having the nicotine out of your system for one year makes the decision to recommit to another period of time easier. Also, do you want your child to be a smoker? Set the example and they will learn from you.

I am a smoker as well. I also want to quit, it is very tough. I had tried just cold turkey, it almost worked. Going to the gym helps alot also eating well. You feel like your doing something good for yourself so there is more motivation to quit. But I can't give too great of advice cause I am still smoking. Good luck!!

My husband quit smoking 5 years back. In fact in March it will be 5 years. He did it cold turkey. His sucess mantra was small steps. He took it day by day. Each day was a small step. During the first year he forgot about all other personal growth or weight or diet control plans. He gained 25 pounds during this stretch. Once he had the smoking controlled he started on the weight and diet control regime too. He has since lost 15 pounds.
Hope this helps.
All the best!

You know it is bad? No, you don't! You've heard the conscensus and you can't dispute the evidence.

I quit over 12 years ago after smoking for 32 years. I knew of the aids on the market and hypnosis, but I quit cold-turkey. I quit because I became conviiiinced of the killer in tobacco.

Once convinced, beyond a shadow of a doubt, you won't be able to put the poison in mouth unless you want to die.

The only thing I can tell you is that after 3 days of cold turkey the nicotine is totally out of your system. After that it's a question of breaking the habit. If you can take it one desire to smoke at a time and not do it eventually you'll reach 30 days and the habit will be broke as well.

I wish you the strength to do this. It is one of the most hellish habits to break. You are in my prayers.

I quit smoking November of 2005. I still have cravings. You just take it one day at a time, sometimes one minute at a time. It helps me to exercise. Sorry it isn't more helpful. If stopping was so easy, more people would quit. Good luck

it's really a test of will. get counseling. find a support group. try the gum/patches. work out. try hypnotism.
