I love milk, drink about a gallon of whole milk a week. I cannot stand the watered down stuff. My doctor tells me it is better for me to drink beer. The milk gives me the vitamins I need and the minerals I get nowhere else, since I do not eat vegetables. However, it also gives me fat I don't need. because I have a weight problem and I have diabetes.

Adult humans do not need milk. Humans are the only species that continues to drink milk --(from other animals) past infancy. Nature intended for milk to provide sustenance and pass on necessary biological material from mother to offspring. To answer your question, drinking milk won't hurt you but you don't need it either. As for the downside of milk; if you're lactose intolerant then it will make you uncomfortable and maybe give you gas, cramps and diarhhea. The benefit of milk to adults is the calcium it contains, but you can get your calcium in more useful forms and quantities from a proper diet. Hope this helps.

Read Eat Drink and Be Healthy by the Harvard Medical School folks. They challenge the FDA on lots of topics. FYI, the milk commercial with the mustache thing? Put out by the dairy council. As far as what I've heard of late adults don't need it and get more bad from good from any dairy unless it's nonfat.
Good luck on your quest!
