The only thing he has is a passport. Neither of us has any idea what he (or we) need to do to get the process started. Any info and experience will be very helpful to us!
Thanks!

I'M afraid unless he can find a company here in the US that will take him on through a work visa, the only other way would be a Fiance Visa.
He will have to be in the UK when you apply for this.
That will mean that once he has been issued the visa you have to marry within 90 days here in the US.

If you were talking of marriage anyway then the K1 fiance visa is what you want.
After you marry he then needs to adjust his status and apply for a Green Card.

Alternatively, he keeps visiting you regularly on a visa waiver, allowing him to stay 3 months at a time. He won;t be able to work though.

Here is the US embassy in UK. Gives all the information on the different types of visas and what to do.

Well when you boyfriend goes to court have your boyfriend ask the judge those questions and make sure that the judge can have it still arranged that when he leaves to be with you that his money is still deducted from his pay checks and stuff so his kids are supported by him. If the judge doesnt allow him to leave to where you are at than i dont think it would be a good idea if he left because than he would owe back child support which does add up and if he still cant pay he pretty much goes to prison or jail. It may be best for you two if you move to be with him cause he does have children apparently and i dont think you are the type of person to take him away from his kids his kids need there father it doesnt matter who has custody they need there father and there mother close by so do the right thing before you think of doing the wrong thing, just keep in mind there is children involved and its not fair to them that there parents have moved on and found somebody and want to move away to live with the other person it dont matter which parent.

Since your boyfriend is from the UK and able to travel visa free to the USA under the Visa Waver Program, I don't think that he is supposed to to go over there for any other purpose than to have a holiday - (which means no longer than 90 days).

However, if you are both thinking about getting married you should tell him to apply for a fiancé visa. He will then be able to come over and get married to you. Be aware though that the marriage must take place within 90 days of him entering the country. :-)

If you are a US citizen and have met him in the last 2 years then you can get engaged to him and apply for a K-1 visa which is a fiancée visa. You will need to file a petition with DHS (Department of Homeland Security) which states that both of you have met and got engaged provide lots of pictures of the engagement, both of you meeting each other. Once the petition is approved in the USA it will be sent to the country where your Fiancée lives. He would then be required to attend an interview at an US embassy where he lives, with him he should take lots of pictures of both of you meeting and proof that continued contact was maintained from the time of engagement to now. Once he is granted the Visa he will have six months to come to US after he enters the US both of you have 90 days to get married. Other option is He can come to US on visitor visa and if you want to get married you both can get married but then both of you would have to prove to DHS that the marriage is not a shame to get a green card.

US has a visa for financee visit to meet his/her girl friend/boy friend. Perhaps you should advise him to contact the nearest US Embassy/Consulate for the visa and its requirement. Many US websites also deal with the subject. He may read the website of the US Embassy/Consulate where he intends to apply for visa.
