It depends on the type of bird. Here in Florida I can think of a few different methods. Herons, egrets, and storks will simply grab the snake and run their beaks over it a few times... chompchompchomp... and start to eat. The thing is, a snake is harder to kill than that, so it takes a while, the heron keeps trying, and so does the snake.
Hawks, owls and such will grab it in their talons and pear off chunks with their beaks.

That's simple, the birds got together in one big meeting and said "Right, that's it, the snakes have eaten our buddies way too much now, only yesterday, Dave and Phil were both eaten when out trying to find food, so we fight back! Enough is enough, we need to stand firm against the snakes!" After a bit of debating, and all the worm buscuits were eaten, the birds agreed it was the right policy and now have this rule in place sayig if they kill the snake, they must eat it. much to every birds delight!

I've watched hawks swoop down and grab snakes. I'd say that sharp beak and the talons have alot to do with the snake dying,

Predatory birds have powerful beaks and claws. By crushing a snake, this would cause certain death. Have a tweet year.
