I really don't recommend getting a husky in a situation like this. Siberian huskies are beautiful, natural-looking dogs, and many people love this about them and get them without being fully informed. Many huskies end up the pound because their owners had no idea what active, demanding dogs they are!

Siberian huskies are incredibly active. One walk a day isn't going to keep them happy. They need hours every day to just run around and romp. You can never have a husky off-leash, because they will run away and you may never see them again. They are stubborn and have a "what's in it for me?" attitude that makes them difficult to train. And lastly, they will kill cats and small animals, so they are not suited to a home with cats.

To get any dog, you need the whole family supporting you. All dogs are a lot of work, and huskies are even more work than the average dog! If you're interested in getting a dog, do some reading in websites and books. In my source list I have an article that will help you learn how to housetrain a dog.

After reading up on dogs and getting your family's agreement that you would like to spend the next 13 years of your lives taking care of a dog, check out your local animal shelter. They have lots of great adult dogs that would do well in a family home, and sometimes they come already housetrained!

Huskies are not a good dog for a first time owner. They are expensive to feed and train. They can be stubborn and tend to want to run away. You may want to research a smaller northern breed dog that will be easier to handle like a Lapphund, Akita, or Miniature Eskimo. But remember, all northern breed dogs need to have big walks everyday and they shed alot too.

a husky is not the dog for you now. a small dog that will less of a bother. of course you will have to house break it as well as any dog that you get. but every one has to be for the dog because it will be a member of the house and one person that is against it will make the dog sense the unwant feeling and might make it unhappy. so wait until you are on your own then you can get what ever you like.

wrong breed for you.... huskies are bred for sled dogs.. they bark alot and like to run... would be difficult if this is your first dog.. might try something a little more easier.
