Suggest that your friend get her son to a speech pathologist for an evaluation. He is more than 2 years delayed at this point, and she needs to find out what the speech delay is due to, as well as getting him into therapy NOW! He will have a very rough time in school if it isn't treated until he gets there.

Well I know this child and she is 7 and doesn't speak much at all. She can only say a few words. Maybe your child needs to be taken to a speech pathologist or get some professional help.
Hope this helps and good luck.

My son didn't speak until he was 4.5. He talked like a caveman until I got him evaluated at a local school that help disabled children. He started with a speech therapist, and she was teaching him basic sign language and to speak the word as he was signing it with his hands. We met with her four times a week for a couple of hours and he learned to talk. now he is 9 and I can't get him to hush it. My doctor helped us find this school and it was very easy to get into and get started. his first word was, 'more' because he loved eating. hope this helps.

Your friend should talk to her son's pediatrician. If he/she thinks the child is developing normally, then cool. If not, the doc can suggest some evaluations/intervention/therapy.
Good luck--

My friends son is 2 and she has him in speech therapy to get him to talk. I think it would be wise to suggest a specialist.
