I've seen the picture quality from both brands,
and even though the Sharp has a good picture,
the Sony is outstanding. The Sony is my choice.

Based on the answer given I think Sony is win over Sharp.
But let me tell you the truth Sony is actually new in LCD business they just work together with Samsung to made their own panel, before that they buy other brand panel for their LCD TV. Because of their years experience in developing great graphic for their CRT TV, they succeeded in planting great graphic engine in their LCD TV so Sony LCD TV can have great graphic.
Sharp in other hand they're in the LCD business for along2 time.
Much more experience in LCD than Sony.
But the choice is yours to make.

Normally, I'd say the Sony. HOWEVER, we got the XD1E range in at work and they're amazing. Really excellent products, and considering how much cheaper Sharps are... go for it

Go for a Samsung, I was faced with the decision of either a Sony Bravia or Samsung... after looking at them in the shop, I thought they sucked... they are also FAR too expencive... also Samsung makes Sonys LCD panels... sooo... also the Samsung is awsome, definatly would need a home theatre system to go with it thought! Happy HDTV viewing!

Sony have a reputation for being more reliable -- BUT when things go wrong they tend to wash their hands of responsibility. Not a good company to deal with, IMHO.
Ditch both and go for a Panasonic.
