only use it once a day or every other day for the first week or two..after that gradually start using it more...this gives your skin adequate time to adjust to it.

Maybe you could try cutting back on the amount of times you are using the proactive.
Meanwhile, try neutrogena sensitive skin lotion. Good stuff. Or you could substitute the proactive with Dove soap and wash your face with that for a few days.
Noxema will help the dryness too. All of these things I mentioned are not as expensive as the proactive and are available in any drug store or supermarket.

First - are you drinking enough water every day? That's number one in getting over dry skin. The most important thing, though is sun damage. Stay out of the sun. If you can't avoid it, wear sunblock that is non-comedogenic (won't clog pores).
Proactiv works. Stick with it and your skin will start to look great. Be gentle with your face. Don't scrub too hard.

Proactive just doesn't work.

I use the Aveda acne line. I really like it. I get cystic acne.

You can pick up Cetaphyl at most drug stores. It's a very gentle face wash. Use that, and witch hazel as a toner. Then light moisture.

Make sure you cleanse twice a day. Don't go to bed with a dirty face. Just brews zits.

If you use make up, use Bare Escentuals. Their mineral line will not cause zits.
