Technically, none of the US states directly borders the province of Ontario, as all the boundaries lie through bodies of water (Lake Superior, Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, and the St Lawrence Seaway).

However, there are several states that also border on those water bodies: New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

The ones that come the closest to making actual land-land contact are New York, Michigan, and Minnesota.
