It's the sheets. 300 thread count is good enough that that shouldn't be happening. I'd try taking them back, sheets are expensive and unless you got those for under $30 for queen size, I'd take them back. Can't hurt to try.

I have some 300 thread count sheets, that Walmart brand I can't think of, you know like easy living or something like that, and they are very nice.

I've had 400 and 500 count sheets that are certainly soft, but for the price, I like these very much.

All in all, 300 thread count sheets shouldn't ball up. 180 count, yes but at the price you probably paid, they should not.

And just FYI, since we do a lot of sheet washing with our business, don't wash the sheets with ANYTHING else. I think towels will sometimes get fibers caught in fibers and cause a little of what you're talking about. I always use softener sheets but can't imagine fabric softener in the wash would be bad.

Good Luck.

I have 500 thread count sheets that I've turned to. I've had the 300 before, and while I didn't have the problem you're having, I did have others.

There are a variety of levels of quality when it comes to the actual weave of the fabric, just because it's 300 thread count doesn't mean it's high quality... remember, you usually get what you pay for.

Thread count has nothing to do with it. Instead, your sheets are a cotton blend, which means you also have synthetic fibers in the weave. It is those fibers which are deteriorating and pilling.

Get 100% cotton sheets (but not combed cotton) and you won't have the problem.
