She can fail her tests (if any) including her PT tests. This however, is not advisable, as those that do fail are involuntarily assigned (Think, cook).

Interestingly enough, I served in Ft Gordan as well. She can discuss the issue with a DS or the Capt. but they're held to such tight retention standards, that they will not voluntarily give her up to another MOS.

She may just want to stick it out. As unbearable as ANY AIT seems to be at times, the hard work, dedication, and education earned during this time will prove valuable at the end of her military career. [~end of GI Joe speech~]

Good luck to both of you.

I have been in the Army going on 12 years. I know that once she gets to her perminate duty station she can submit a 4187 form requesting change of M.O.S, the problem with this is it is extremly rare that they approve this type of request. Also they will pick the new M.O.S. not her. I think the best bet is for her to stick it out and finish the A.I.T. Training and go to her first duty station. When she is one year away from her seperation date her reenlistment window will open. This were you can sign up for another contract or get out she can either get out of the Army or she can get what we call a reclass, Change of M.O.S. Thios first reenlistment is very important because you are garenteed to change M.O.S, choice of duty station, and any schools like Air Bourne school. They might try to play the game with her and say they cant get her that stuff but not true. They may tell her other wise to fill need slots. But if she insists on it they have to give here those options. I hope this will work for an answer. I know its hard to imagine but the Army the time actually goes really fast. Some times i think i can't believe I have been in almost 12 years, ime flies. I understand her consern but she needs to understand she signed the contract and like anyother buisness they will hold her to the contract. So the best bet would be to do the time and either reenlist for a new M.O.S. or get out of the Army. Keep in mind the Army grows on you over time!!

The Army sends soldiers to where it needs them. If she is in AIT, she should see a counselor or her senior NCO immediately and state her issue. She may have a difficult time with changing course right now in the middle of training, but additional MOS can be had as soon as she completes this training and qualifies for the new MOS.
As far as career options she will get better training in the communications field than as an admin person. She should think twice about this change unless the course is too difficult. Then they will reassign her automatically, and usually to an Admin MOS

It is very tough, especially given she just went in. I don't know that 25U is, so no help in telling you why she doesn't like it. When you sign the contract, and get your MOS, it has a butterfly effect on the military. They plan on her being here for training, from this time to this time, and then out in the regular Army doing her job. Changing that throws a wrench in the logistics running the military.

In the Corps, the are called "boat spaces". I went in as a radio operator. They knew I was leaving for boot camp this day, and would be done on a specific day. They knew that I would go to infantry school for a certain amount of time. I would then go to Comm school, and be there for so long. Then, I would hit the fleet by a certain time, and were counting on me being done with training by that time. There is a lot of planning that goes on even before the person gets to boot camp. Any wrenches in that timeframe really cause a lot of adjustments to be made.

How in the heck did she NOT know that she was getting into? She either didn't look at the info given and do her own research, or the counselor at MEPS fudged the facts a bit. The only advice I can give is for her to ask to speak to the DS's about her concerns, or wait until she comes up for re-enlistment and she reclasses. Info on her job:

25U: Signal Support Systems Specialist

Major Duties: The Signal Support Systems Specialist supervises, installs, employs, maintains, troubleshoots, and assists users with battlefield Signal support systems and terminal devices; integrates Signal systems and networks; performs unit level maintenance on authorized Signal equipment and associated electronic devices; trains and provides technical assistance to users of Signal equipment; and operates and performs prevent maintenance checks and service (PMCS) on assigned vehicles and power generators.

If your scores are right(110 GT), you can pick what ever job you want(women are restricted from most combat/combat arms), the Army doesn't just assign you a job where they need you. The counselor at MEPS may try to steer you to what the Army will need, but the choice is ultimately yours. If you can't get the choice you want, they can either hold the next slot for you, or you could just walk away and try at a later date.(Your ASVAB scores will be good for one year, so if you go beyond a year after you took the test, you will need to re-take the test)

I failed my communications job at Fort Gordon because I hated that base. Then they offered that I could stay in the course or choose another job. They offered me a choice of 3 or 4 jobs and I ended up getting Intelligence. Go figure! :) Maybe she could talk to the commanders & csm at her unit and let them know that she is not trying to get out of the military she is just interested in something else. She might have to wait.. but it's worth a shot.

Sorry, no good news for you. Do not fail PT test, fail school tests and she will be reclassed. 25U is not as bad as you think, considering if she fails, she may get. cook, MP, NBC or somethign like that. She should ask for supply. Please tell her to stick it out. There is no guarantee. Once she gets to her duty station she may even get to do another job. Tell her to look at the promotions points. Those admin jobs are hard to get promoted in, because of the promo points. She needs to stay where she is at, I know is hard to hear what you dotn want, but there is nothing they can do. No drill sgt or commander will do anything about it sorry.

on condition which you fail to fulfill the abilities to your interest. shop this in strategies: the army spent funds coaching you in a particular interest, and that they desire a return for his or her investment. they gained't casually replace your MOS. That being reported, there are situations the place you will possibly be required to artwork outdoors your MOS. it is very authentic once you're a occupation soldier. i grow to be exact to the Recruiting Command for 3 years. whilst there, my excursion grow to be involuntarily prolonged a 300 and sixty 5 days. have faith me, it grow to be no longer my determination, yet I soldiered alongside. you're a soldier first, and in spite of your MOS is, 2nd.

No one can switch MOS period. The army assign you the MOS they want you in, regardless of what you put down as your choice of MOS. Sorry to say this, but your wife is stuck in this MOS, unless she flunks AIT, and get reassigned to another MOS, which means she will have to begin a new AIT all over again.
