I have always had huge pupils, which get bigger when I am tired, and have just seen a police show on tv where they use the size of pupils as an indicator of drug use. Now I am paranoid people will think I am spaced out. Is it really so unusual to have naturally large pupils?

A lot of people have larger pupils. It is the way you were born. There are only a few drugs that cause them to actually be dilated like cocaine. When people are taking drugs their eyes are dilated and do not respond well to light, do not shrink when a light in shown into them

You may need to visit the eye doctor to get your eyes checked. Dilated pupils can be a sign of a brain bleed. Don't get worried though as its probably not that. I did however have just one of my pupils dilate a few weeks ago. it turns out i had put some of my soldering chemicals into my eye without notcing. After time it went away. Different people have different sized pupils so its not that unusual. Some say its a sign of being in love! i.e. when you see something you like, your eyes open more to enjoy it! :)

Yeah the same thing happens to me too ... not sure why but dont worry about big pupils or tiny pupils are not the only indication of drug use !!

There was a test on tv once when they got a pair of identical twins, put one in a dark room and one in a bright room then got a bloke to say which one was the most attractive. Turned out to be the one who had been in the dark room because her pupils had enlarged. Lucky you! Dont be paranoid but get your eyes checked in case you need glasses.

I dont think so. Have oyu ever been to an opthamalogist and had a good eye exam? Maybe a good exam, making sure everything is ok will ease some of your concerns. I am sure there are others with large pupils too.

I have always had really large pupils and they hardly react to light, you have to shine a light in my eyes for my pupils to look normal. Don't worry about it. My eyes may look like I'm on drugs but they will need to do a test and they will see that I'm not. Its normal to me!

The avg pupil size when exposed to bright lights is around 5.5mm. There is a plus/minus rule of 4.5-6.5mm. Mine are 7mm. Do you know the measurement of your pupils?

It could just be how your eyes react to light. The brighter the room the smaller your pupils, but its not a rule for everyone

same here.
i think when police are checking pupils, they are looking for how they dilate (not just how big they are). also, they have you look left and right because there's a twitch or something that occurs when someone on drugs is straining their eyes far left or right. i'm not a drug user myself...but my ex, (who happened to be pretty familiar with it) told me this.
