What do you think about leaving young girls, ages 2 or 3 for a few hours alone with grandpa or uncle, etc? Would most people agree that its best to heed on the side of caution and avoid this situation with all the things we see on the news, etc?

If these uncles or grandpa's aren't well known to you, then it's not entirely unreasonable to be cautious. However, if there are a lot of kids in the family, and they have kids of their own, and there is no reason or rumor why anyone else wouldn't leave their young girls with them, then possibly you are being overly protective. I think your best bet is to spend time w/said male relatives, get to see how they act when you are around, see them interact with your daughters, develop a close relationship so that you feel that you've checked out the situation for yourself. You would probably have some instinct or sense if something just felt odd. If you ever have that gut feeling, act on it, but without any reason....it's a bit farfetched.

Do you have some reason for feeling that a male member of your family would harm the young girls in your family? If you do, then of course you won't leave your girls with him. If you don't, they may become an excellent resource. My daughter often stayed with her uncle and still has a close relationship with him. However, I was uncomfortable about leaving her with her grandfather, so I didn't, which later turned out to be a wise decision.

We all have these "early warning devices" called instincts. As women, we often ignore them for fear of offending someone - which is a mistake. Whatever your decision may be, follow your instincts - they exist to keep you, and your girls, safe.

Best of luck to you!

Depends on grandpa or the uncle. I left my daughter with my dad and brothers all the time, I trust them implicitly. Now, if you don't trust these family members, then by all means don't leave your child with them, regardless of gender.

I would definitely leave my little ones with my family or my husbands. If you do not have any reason not too, then why not? Unless you come from a family of sickos which I am aware are out there.

you can definitely never be too careful... unfortunately both men and women are sickos these days who hurt little kids. it's up to you based on what you know about the people you are considering leaving your children with whether or not you should. if you're in this situation, I wish you luck.

Depends on how responsible they are. However, if they have a history of molestation then you may want to be careful. You can find out by doing a background check too. Hope this helps.

If your having to ask this question,I'm thinking that grandpa or uncle cant be trusted? Don't do it if you're questioning yourself.

Have either ever been accused or suspected of child abuse of any kind? Not all men are bad. and you are talking about either your father and brother, or your spouses? we you safe with them? I left my daughter with grandpa lots of time and she was very close to him till the day he died.

Wherever I went, I took my kids with me. If kids weren't allowed, I stayed home with them. A person can never be too careful when it comes to their kids.
