Alright, I admit I'm a prude. I let my kids wear jeans that fit and t-shirts with no advertising or rude/suggestive messages. I buy it, so I only buy what I approve.
Every where I look I see young girls wearing things that make prostitutes blush. Yesterday, in a military hospital waiting room, I saw an 8 year old running around unsupervised... wearing a cut off tee saying "Sweet Thang", hipster jeans, pink bandana for a belt, and her Bratz underwear showing an inch over the top. As I watched 18 year old GIs involuntarily looking, I wondered where her mother was... She was wearing a skin tight, tailored white button down shirt, with a black push-up bra and black leggings. She had to have been at least late 30's, so she knew she was putting on a show while bending over the stroller she was pushing.
This isn't sexual liberation! It is placing yourself on display and offering your kids as objects of temptation. Fine for yourself on a night at the club... just plain wrong on your kids. Until we women stop buying the crap that passes for fashion these days, they will keep right on trying to sell us prostitute uniforms. Putting your kids in this stuff should be illegal. Oh, wait... it IS in the middle east. There I go, sounding un-American just to protect little girls from sexual predators. *sigh*
Flame on... I vented a bit too much here. But... but... THEY SELL WATER FILLED PADDED TRAINING BRAS HERE IN TARGET FERCRISSAKES!
I just couldn't hold that one in. I tried. Really, I tried...

I agree and I think it is the parents fault. They want their little girls to grow up to fast and not be little girls. And these parents would be the first to wonder why if their child were abducted or become pregnant. I believe it is also societies fault because you can`t discipline your child the way you should have the right to do and I don`t mean beat them but a spanking wouldn`t hurt .Children are more mature now than they were when mine were born and I thought mine were to grownup but they covered their bodies and did not wear makeup until they were 17. I think it is disgusting for a 8 or 9 year old to dress like that. And I agree, there would not be as many abduction if the parents would be role models.

I totally agree with you. They wear high heels, make up, mini skirts, and not only the way they dress but hte way they behave. I would not let my daughter dress like like this at all, a little make up at 16, some nice skirts, and very low pumps.
This has to do with the absence of parents and the media being htere for them to tell them whats right (doing the parenting)

Children are mimicking the things they see on TV, videos and movies. Because we tend to let them see age inappropriate material at younger and younger ages-they want to buy the same type clothing. And, to make matters worse, the stores are selling that stuff. The problem is also compounded by children getting larger and physically maturing faster, so they need preteen/tween clothes at earlier ages.
Personally, I shop primarily at stores like Gymboree and Gap, who offer age appropriate clothing. If we go to LTD Too and Justice, I control what items are purchased-nothing revealing or with inappropriate sayings on it, etc. Sometimes purchasing cute PJs, sparkly glitter or a cute purse will solve the need to be "Big Girl". Department stores tend to have cheaply made trendy stuff, but it is not as sleazy. Hope that helps.

My daughter wears jeans, t-shirts and either tennis shoes or low-heel boots. I agree with you 100%. Children don't dress or act like children anymore. Thank goodness my daughter is a modest person, because there is no way I'd let her dress like a miniature stripper.

I may be 13, but I agree. The whole matter is distracting a vast majority of schoolkids away from their work. Instead of concentrating in class, the kids talk about who they like and what they're wearing.
There really is no way stopping it. Because of popular culture and styles some kids think it is the right thing to do.

Absolutely!!!! I have a five year old daughter that wears a size 6 and it is SO hard to find CUTE clothes for her that make her look like the little girl that she is. Even old navy and gap kids - their "big girl" stuff looks just plain sl*utty. I love gymboree and buy most of her clothes there. I'm so tired of seeing these hoochie clothes on the racks in little girl sizes!!!

I agree Last september I thought I'd get a nice more grown up tee shirt for my go daughter who was turning 6. I looked on the shelf of tee shirts in the sizes for 6 year old the tee shirts said things like flirt or worse sexy in big letters across her chest. My reaction was anyone looks at my God daughter as sexy at 6 & they'll soon find me rearranging their teeth or worse.
I wear silly tee with messages but I think it's criminal to print things like sexy on the tee shirt designed for a 6 year old.

Uhh, yeah. They are. The worst I think I ever saw, though, was a little girl, probably around 4 years old. She was with her mother and a baby. The little girl was wearing a pair of sweat pants that said "you wish" across the butt. "You Wish"!!!!!!!! That's like a freakin' invitation! I wanted to get out of the car and smack the crap out of that mother!
No way will my daughter ever wear clothes like that. I hope that I raise her to have more self respect than that.

You are Absolutely right! Thank god I have little boys, but if I did have a daughter she definitely would dress age appropriate. I think alot of it is the manufacturing clothing companies fault but alot of the blame is the parents. (sorry to say) but if the parents didn't buy those slutty clothes then their daughters wouldn't be wearing them and the manufacturing companies wouldn't make them because they need to make clothes that sell. I think alot of kids were them because it's the cool (slutty style their friends wear).
