I need some help! I really want to adopt, or rescue a dog from the local kennels and the rescue places and everything else. My birthday is in May, may 4th. And I am really hoping for a dog. And i am going to get one i think. Do you think i will be able to find a small, sweet dog that i can carry around.

Of course you will Ellen. You just need to find the one that has a connection with you. If I were a dog a local kennel and saw you, an owner really looking for the right dog, I'd bark and whimper and roll on my stomach and do everything to win your affection and adoption.
There are lots of sweet little dogs out there. Be careful about the chiwawas as the can have nasty tempers. But a well trained poodle is as loveable and cuddly as they get.
Good luck on your dog search!

If you are rescuing a dog sometimes you just have to adopt the ones in need. When you are looking for a dog and you want it to be able to handle being carried and shown extra attention you may want to choose a younger dog from a litter that way it will become used to that treatment easier. Many dogs in kennels can be kind, but depending on what happened in thier lives they can have uneven temperments... meaning... you might find a small sweet dog, but you would want to take into consideration it's history, and treat it the best way possible. If it shows that it wants it's own space, and doesn't like being carried around, It's better to love it enough to allow it some room.

Of course every animal shelter has small dogs u can carry around. Just adopt the dog from a animal shelter that puts the dog to sleep so u can save an inocent animals life. I love animals but small dogs are sometimes agressive so make sure u get to know the dog and play with it first before u make big decisions. Also DO NOT judge them by the way they look, sometimes the ugliest animal is nicer than the cutest.
I hope u find a dog u love and i hope u save it from being put to sleep in a pound.

Of Course you will find one. Animal shelters are the BEST places to get a dog, and i'm glad you want to rescue one. I'm sure if you go visit the dogs you will fall in love with one of them, and you will know that it is meant to be YOUR dog. I hope you do get a dog for your birthday. I know i always asked for one, but my parents never allowed it. Good Luck finding your new friend!

l think that if you were to go to the human society that you will fine a good pet. and there will be one less dog put to sleep. l wish that l could get another dog but l have four. l guess that is why l am pushing people to go to the shelters to get a dog. and if they do not have one that is small enough to carry around then may be you get one you can romp around with, some times little dogs can get hurt faster then a large dog.

First off, think about your lifestyle, if your away from the house a lot, (work, partying etc.). 2nd read about the temperments of the dogs your thinking about and try to fit the two together. A small dog has to be let out a lot more then a bigger one and you won't be able to take the small dog everywhere with you (work).
So before you get one, really think about your choice and wether you can really take proper care of it.

Actually, that's really good you have been asking for a few months. It took our family about a month to find a pup we loved. And it will happen soon enough for you, just keep looking, and to add; you are looking in all the RIGHT places :)
It is such a commitment, and even I at 25 didnt really realize it, till a week after having him, lol. But it really is such a nice thing. And it makes you feel more like a family :)
Good luck and keep looking, it'll happen

Allot depends on how old you are. People usually select an animal that reflects their personality, so keep looking till you find one. And YES, I agree, a pet is not for a birthday, it's for life.
WOAH! SEEMS YOU'VE BEEN ASKING THIS QUESTION FOR 4 MONTHS NOW. ARE YOU SURE YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A DOG?

If you are really committed, to test if a dog is aggressive or not, hold it on its back in your arms like a baby. If it snarls or jumps wildly, etc. try to find a different one. But, it truly is you opinion.
Remember: Dogs aren't for birthdays, they're for life.
