I am buying a hitachi 51", it says this..

DTV tuner: Hitachi’s DTV tuner allows the 51F59 to receive and process digital programming which is then converted to 1080i for display. A separate HD tuner is required to receive HD programming.

But what my REAL question is is that does that mean I have to buy something seperate to get HD picture with my xbox 360?

Let me start by saying that I am an EXTREMELY happy owner of this very set as well as a 360 owner. That being said I can tell you beyond the shadow of a doubt that this set will accept any OTA(Over The Air) HD signal and display it in full 1080i glory. The issue over whether it's a true HD tuner has been debated at length over on the AVS Forum and in the end it was decided that it really didn't matter what the tuner was described as because the picture was simply phenomenal, an opinion held by both camps in fact!

Now as to your real concern, that being 360 compatibility, well let me assure you that you'll find the combination of this TV's 1080i native resolution combined with the same 1080i output of the Xbox yeilds a stunning picture. As a gamer you'll appreciate this bit of info. CRT doesn't have to measure pixel response in milliseconds because there are none, thus instant and true image representaion is there 24/7/365. This is critical when playing first person shooters such as Halo on Xbox Live as the lag associated with the other technologies allows the slightest bit of lag.

Sure, a 10ms lag doesn't seem like much but it is the difference in that hitting and missing those vital split second shots, the difference between tea bagging an downed opponent or cursing yourself blue over why your 'dead on' head shot failed to take out the bad guy. Oh, and screen 'Burn In' isn't really an issue either anymore so than any other set, in fact less if proper cautions such as not leaving ANYTHING paused for extended periods of time.

So go ahead and pull the trigger on that bad boy, I promise, you'll not be dissapointed in any way, shape or form. Good luck and happy viewing.

if I were you I wouldn't buy that Hitachi...I have seen alot of problems with them. I used to work for Circuit City. and that Hitachi is A.) a 2 year old model and B.) will not show you 1080i correctly because it is a conventional tube set. I would wait awhile and get something of better quality instead of wasting dough on this. on and C.) the connection for your XBOX is thru component video cords which are on the back of the set.

You will only need a Tuner if you want HD channels over the air. If you have HD programming from your service provider they will give you a set-top box that acts as a converter anyway.

>does that mean I ought to purchase some thing seperate to get HD image with my xbox 360? you will choose an HDMI cable or factor AV cables to connect the 360 to the 51F59. do no longer spend too lots on one; a ~$10 HDMI cable is wonderful. do no longer use the tuner to connect them. in case you will connect the television to an antenna for loose programing, you will in all hazard opt to purchase an exterior HD tuner. while you ought to use the geared up in tuner, it won't supply you an HD high quality image and a greater moderen tuner would be greater powerful at receiving marginal alerts. DTV tuner technologies has come a protracted way interior the final 5 years. >the television i'm paying for with a bit of luck it is inexpensive. large, heavy, and previous.....

Your television can receive digital off-air broadcasts but cannot receive Hi-Definition signals. It's whats known as HD-ready, meaning it can display the images but requires a seperate tuner. You'll only be able to receive standard television broadcasts with the buily-in Digital Video Tuner.
You XBox is an independant source that requires no additional tuner or converters. Plug it into your television via either HDMI or Component cables and you should be ready to go. (TV's I know about- not so much video games, though.)

No, just connect your xbox 360 with the component cables it comes with and it should work fine. You need the HD tuner to receive HD channels.

Buy a TV with a built in HD Tuner. You will regret it if you don't.
