As long as you are comfortable with it, tell the people that you want to know. Make sure too that you realize that the more comfortable you are with your brace- meaning that you're fine with it, still the same person, self esteem is good- the more people will feel comfortable with it too. The brace doesnt change who you are, and shouldn't change the way people view you. And its your personal decision wether people need to know or not. There are tons of people with all kinds of braces, prosthetics, implants, etc. that are doing everything in life normally, confidently, and happily. make sure you remain proud of yourself and dont worry or change who you are just because you have a brace. Worry for you, not what others think and you will be much happier!

I think telling your closest friends was important but you don't have to tell everyone. Don't let the brace take over your personality and stop you from being yourself. TO make your closest friend comfortable have a slumber party and let them wear the brace so they can sort of understand what you are going through. As long as you don't hide your personality due to having to wear a brace no one else should really matter. Although if someone asks you whats different about your walk or such be confident and just tell them. You shouldn't be ashamed of having to wear a brace if it is going to help your future.

I would only tell the people you consider to be really close friends or confidants. And if I chose to tell anyone else, I wouldn't necessarily volunteer information out of the blue- I'd volunteer it only if they had an expectation that I participate in some activity that would be uncomfortable or difficult because of the brace. Good luck with your treatment. You are likely much more conscious of being "stiff" and wearing something heavy than anyone else so I wouldn't worry about that.

If people notice any difference in you and ask, then explain why you are wearing a brace. If anyone has a problem with that....tough. Don't worry about what others think, it's your body. you just walk tall and find real friends. I wish you the very best of luck. X

I think you almost answered your own question. It seems to me that telling them is the best option. Because you will worry a lot if they notice. You may be known with the girl with the back brace but if your friends truly are your friends they won't think of you differently in a bad way and will support you.

It's not anyone's business unless you want it to be. I very much doubt anyone could tell you are wearing a brace or that they would think of you any differently. You're not in a wheelchair and scoliosis is not a seen as a scary disease by people. Who you want to know is all up to you.

i've got heard all that crap until eventually now. If i had a pound (£) for everytime i heard "you will do your neck in with all that headbanging", i may be wealthy. i'm going to admit i did get a stiff neck as quickly as I first began it at 15 yet my neck have been given used to it and stopped aching after a whilst. that's the comparable with any actual exertion like sit down-ups.

hello to you too,
I wouldn't tell the whole world you are wearing braces,
there is probably a reason why you have to
dont be embarrassed if you have to wear braces
I think your friends are uncomfortable with this because they either can't accept you if that is the case ditch them or they haven't experienced themselves.

you tell ppl if you feel its necessary, if you're comfortable doing so, or if they ask and you feel like asnwering them. its honestly not a big deal. ppl wear braces every day - on their legs, backs, necks, teeth... think about the good its going to do you when its over :-)

i kno a girl that had a brace for several years and she didn't make a big deal about it. actually, her friends would try it on and look like frankinstine. the point is, you can't hide it forever, and when you tell your "everyone", they might be mad you didnt say anything sooner. You may as well tell them sooner rather than later so it isn't such a surprise and they don't think your a creeper.
