It is up to the parent. I recently let my son off for the 2 weeks public schools were off for Christmas, and I won't do it again. I may do shorter days, but 2 weeks made it tough to get back and it was like he had forgotten everything! So for us, if it is one day we would probably take it off and have a fun day outside or snuggled up with hot coccoa and a fire, but if it is like a teacher inservice day or a long vacation we would probably not. But then we vacation in October when public schools are in class, so we take oppourtunities they do not have.
On the average though I would say we do school work more days than the average public school, but our days are shorter because we don't have as many distractions and can get more done in a short time. We work at my sons pace so if he has mastered something we move on where in school you have to wait until everyone gets it.

It's up to the parent. We don't take a break except from all of our social stuff, which is usually cancelled, but considering how little time it takes to homeschool a child at a table, it really doesn't make a big difference in the day.

The parents choose the schedules; they're not run by public schools. If the parents want to give their kids a snow day, they can. And to be honest, if there's a good snowfall, homeschooled kids will probably get significant time outside even if public schools are in session. :)

I personally found snow days a good time to do specialty projects for homeschooling...science experiements with snow, ice, and cold weather. We continue doing homeschool during snow days.....but then again with homeschooling, what would be considered a snow day?? :) I would love to see the dining room filled with snow...hehehee

A snow day is called because the roads are not safe enough to risk the lives of the children, fortunately, for homeschoolers, there is no bus ride to school. Enjoy your studies.

Snow days are a rare occurance around here, so I would definately let the kids have the day off. Plus playing outside counts toward P.E.!

Why would they? It's not like they have to travel anywhere to go to school. My kids usually go on and do school work even if it is snowy. They get their work done within a couple of hours in the morning, then by the time the public school kids are getting out, my kids are ready to go play.

Well, my friend is homeschooled and when we had a snow day in December i asked him and he said that if whatever disrict your in is having a snow day then you have a snow day. I think his parents were just going buy that to play with his friends though. IDK, we'll find out.
